I should probably offer up a prayer to a Muse. To which Muse, I'm not sure.
Calliope is the muse of epic poetry, but my tale is far from grand. It is a small fragment of a much larger story. A single line from a poem lost to time.
Clio, muse of history is not appropriate either, for though this story is real, it is not entirely true.
This work is not a tragedy, so no need for Melpomene.
Not a comedy, so no need for Thalia.
Although involving love, this is no love poem.
Though involving gods, this does not feel sacred.
Mayhap it is better off this way. I do not think they would approve of what I am about to tell.
