who would stay up all night over the phone

just to make sure
that i was okay
to make sure i wouldn't do anything dumb
to make sure i went to sleep safely

you were the one who called when i went through
benders on top of benders

you would make sure i was sleeping on my side
after i drank a lot
you stayed awake waiting for me to sleep

and that night when you showed me
that you truly did want me to be safe
i think that was the night i fell in love with you

no one else did
