<30 years later>
Seventh grade went by with no problems. Eighth grade was the same way. Ninth was fun and I loved the new school. Tenth was depressing because Ashley moved to Nebraska. I got over it though. Eleventh was when Julia and I started to grow apart. Twelfth was amazing when I finally graduated. I got married at 25, and had Layla four years later. Now, I'm 42. Layla's 12.
We live in Illinois now. I left Michigan two years after I got married. I didn't care where we lived, but it had to have one thing. There had to be woods right in the backyard, like where I grew up.
"Mom," Layla says. I look up from cutting some peppers, and look at her. "Yeah?" I say. "I'm going to be in the woods with James and Olivia. Is that okay?" She asks sweetly. I smile. "Of course," I reply. She pulls down her fist and mouths, "yes." Then she runs out the back door to join her friends.
Someday I'll tell her about about my "adventures" in the woods. Ever since she was born, she's been an outdoor person. I still am, too.
And I love that.
