"I'll get the cake," Cassie whispered as she got up from beside me at the table
BB, Kat, Cassie, Lexi and I were all at the Howard's house celebrating Maddy's birthday.
Cassie brought out a cake with a picture of Maddy on it along with 18 burning candles. We all sang happy birthday to her, the only light in the dining room being the candles and the flashes from the videos and pictures of our phones.
"Here, I got this for you too," Cassie gave a Maddy a thick pink photo book, full of pictures of them over the years. They both hugged each other, tears of joy in their eyes
After everyone gave Maddy her presents we went over to the steps to take photos. Maddy and Cassie upfront, then Kat behind Maddy with BB next to her and me sitting next to Lexi and behind BB.
Music from the 90s and early 2000s was blaring through the house. I grabbed Maddy's hand and spun her around causing a smile to take over her face.
"Any of you snitches to your parents about this, your days at the Howard house are finito burrito," Suze said walking through the kitchen with a glass of wine in her hand
"Never that Suze," Maddy slurred
"Cheers!" Everyone out their drinks up
"To my beautiful girls," Suze said
I walked into the living room, passing Cassie who was sitting on a step
"Do you know if Nate's still coming over?" She asked, holding her seltzer
"I guess. That's what Maddy's saying," I said
Cassie chugged the rest of her drink and held her head in her hands
"Are you okay?" I asked
"You've been asking me that a lot lately," She gave a dry laugh
"I just want to know what's going on, Cass. You've been off recently," I said softly while rubbing her back
She sighed, "I've just been really tired,"
I nodded, "I get that. If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm always here Cassie, judgement free." I smiled and pulled her in for a side hug
She laid her head on my shoulder, "Thanks, (Y/N),"
"Anytime Cassie," I patted her back and stood up and walked to the living room to see Maddy and Kat dancing together
"Maddy," A deep voice called from the living room entrance getting our attention
"You're here," Maddy said cooly as she pulled away from Kat
Nate and Maddy met each other in the middle of the room. Everyone else went to sit down on a couch or chair
Maddy unwrapped her gift. A necklace. He put it on her and they kissed.
Everyone left the living room, deciding to let Maddy and Nate have their moment in peace
As Kat and I walked past the steps Cassie came down in a pink bathing suit with a cut out just below her chest and a string tied around her waist
Her sudden wardrobe change caught the attention of Nate and Maddy along with me and Kat
"Wow, that was a choice," Kat mumbled causing me to awkwardly chuckled
"Lexi, go check on your sister," Suze said, "She's been acting weird all night," She whispered
Lexi walked out of the house and Suze walked closer to me
