Loki heard shuffling noises as he awakened. They were coming from your corner of the room. He lazily opened his eyes, peeking through his thick lashes, to see your naked back. It was long, a fine layer of body hair giving it a trail downwards and lines from the corset you had worn last night.

Loki felt his face grow warm as he closed his eyes and pretended to not have seen you dressing. You slipped on the shirt of leather, covering your torso, before sitting on your bed.

Odin had given you a choice, which brother to battle. You could go with Thor, the more brute one, or go with Loki, the weaker one and finally have an excuse to stab him. Or you could fight both. While you were planning, Loki had hoped that you would pick Thor, knowing that you'd want the stronger one to fit your overconfidence.

Three simple knocks came from the door, a maid holding a scroll behind it. The contents stated the rules for today's battle. Same weapons, and a drop of blood to win.

You looked up from the scroll, to rest your eyes on Loki, who you thought was sleeping. He was the man whose affections you yearned for the most. Your mind went back to what he said yesterday, and years before.

I just don't want you to go through them by yourself.

Was he lying again? Just a cheap line to toy with your heart?

"Loki!" you called, searching for your best friend when you had fallen from the tree.

"N/n!" he cried, "Oh dear, are you alright?" he lifted you up, throwing your hand over his shoulder as he helped you stand.

"How in the world would I be alright if I fell from a tree and broke my ankle?" you snorted, "let's go to the infirmary."

"Sorry princess, I should have caught you,"

"How would you catch me if you were all the way up there and I was halfway?" you reasoned. "It's not your fault."

Taking you to the nurse, Loki sat with you as she healed your foot. Time and time again, Loki was told he was allowed to leave. He would not budge until you could come back to your room along with him.

"Why'd you stay? You could have gone to get us some cake," you laughed.

The young boy with the mischievous glint in his eyes giggled before replying, "I stayed because I didn't want you to go through the healing by yourself."

A small tear rolled down your cheek as you thought of your life with your prince when you both were younger. Things changed, he didn't care. Not anymore.

You moved towards the sleeping prince, gently sitting beside his bed. Shaking his torso, you woke him from his pretend sleep. "Wake up," you called. "Get up, sleeping beauty."

Loki pretended to wake again, opening his eyes slowly, as though it was the first time that morning. He scrunched his nose before turning over and getting off the bed.

He walked towards the washroom, stumbling into the sette before actually walking in. He always knew how to make you laugh, intentional or not. He knew.

"Princess Y/n and Prince Loki," Haldier yelled, "please enter the ring."

You had taken your choice, Loki. Your armour clinked softly as you entered the arena. Daggers were chosen as the weapon. You admired daggers, but you were more skilled at the sword.

Placing your feet in the proper position Sif showed you, you bowed your head with respect for your opponent. He returned the gesture, unsheathing his weapons from their scabbards.

With the clang of a gong, the match began, Odin, Frigga, the other warriors and royalty as an audience. The two of you engaged in hand-to-hand combat at first, dodging punches and blocking hits before you used your right arm to lift Loki by the thigh.

He grabbed on to yours as well before doing some sort of astonishing manoeuvre and wrapping his hips around your neck, choking you in the process.

You grabbed his hair, yanking his body off yours and dropping it to the ground before casting an illusion of a duplicate of yourself. He thought quickly and using his dagger, sliced your cheek neatly. He laughed in victory, but it was short-lived.

Your illusion touched their cheek, where no blood was. Loki tilted his head at the sight of no blood on his dagger. Your invisible being crept up behind him, pointing the dagger to his arm and quietly sliced a layer of skin. The prince whined as the blood spilt onto his armour.

"Hiii," you called as you made yourself observable to the audience.

"You used magic! That's against the rules," Loki pointed out.

"When I'm about to be killed, there are no rules." You spat.

"You may continue with your training Vanir Princess," Odin declared with a minor trace of annoyance. "Loki, you disappoint me."

You were happy with your victory but slightly upset by Odin's last sentence. No parent should ever tell their child they disappointed them. You held out your hand to Loki, who was still sitting on the ground.

"Come on, we can go get a drink," you healed his cut, "you fought well."

Loki finally hoped you were opening up to him, to which he was overjoyed, despite his father's hideous comment on his training. Together, both of you strolled towards the Alehouse, still holding each other's hands.
