Pope Heyward x Y/n
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1122At first it was just tutoring. You'd meet up with Pope Heyward at "The Wreck" each Tuesday and Thursday. It wasn't really tutoring though, he just went over your work and corrected a few things here and there. That turned into ordering a basket of fries and forgetting about the home work. He was so easy to talk to. He was a great listener. He had amazing insight on everything you told him. You found it a little weird that you always had the same waitress. Her name tag read, "Kiara" Pope seemed to know her. She'd shoot him side eye glares from the register.
He always insisted on walking you home. Especially at the end of first semester, when it got darker out earlier. You started looking forward to seeing Pope. You both took all the same honors classes but conveniently never together. Popes smile made you smile, even if something wasn't funny his laugh would make you laugh. Tonight was your guy's last meeting. Or at least that's what you agreed to the last to you were supposed to end your sessions, you both knew you wouldn't stick to it. You both trudged through the sand in the windy weather. You were silent, in attempt to avoid the conversation you knew you would have to acknowledge eventually. You didn't want to admit the true reason you didn't want to end your guys's sessions.
"We have to talk about it." He pointed out dragging himself along beside you. Your arms were crossed securing your jacket closed. It's being called a "Wind Breaker" seemed quite ironic to you. You let out a sigh pulling a tuft of hair behind your ear. Your hair was blowing everywhere unable to resist the gusts of wind. The over the shoulder bag you were carrying was digging in to your collarbone it was beginning to get very annoying. Pope must have noticed your discomfort. He took the bag from you throwing it over his shoulder. "Pope..." you finally turned your head, looking up from your sand covered feet. When you met his gaze he was desperate to hear what he was so clearly hoping for. "We agreed to 8 months." You reminded him. His facial expression didn't change making you think maybe it was actually denial. "We could extend it. We have finals coming up soon, we could study for those." He blurted with hope like he had prepared that excuse ahead of time.
You let out another sigh. "We can't just keep extending Pope. We've already done that....twice." You pointed out unable to meet his gaze. He was in disbelief to your reaction. He scoffed unable to comprehend your words. "But we're good together. We get so much work done." He argued. You took a slight turn walking up a small hill to the Main Street. "I have 4 missing assignments...." You revealed. You looked up to him to meter his reaction. His face was contorted into defense. "Exactly. We could do them together." He whined almost begging you to agree. You couldn't argue with him anymore. Especially when you were pretending to argue about anything else then the actual problem. You turned to Pope stopping on the side walk on the corner right before the main road.
"Pope, we have to stop okay?" You demanded in soft voice not wanting to hurt his feelings. He shook his head in protest. "Why?" He mumbled. Clearly your gentle approach didn't work. You put you hand on his forearm, you rubbed random patterns into his wrist with your thumb. "Because we distract each other." You explained. You looked down at your feet. You didn't want to see Popes face as you broke off what ever it was you had with him. He pulled his wrist from your grasp, interlacing his fingers with yours. His hand made yours look tiny by comparison. Seeing how perfectly they fit together only made this harder.
"Then let's stop studying together." He suggested. You looked up. He was smiling down at you. Pope was very tall. He towered over you. You felt a smile pull at you lips. "Let's just.... Hang out." He continued. You swung your hand that was holding his a little with your inability to stand still. You nodded not saying a word, you didn't want to say something to mess up the moment. "Don't look too excited." He teased you with your anticlimactic reaction. His big goofy grin alerted you he was only joking.
You giggled at his joke. You were so glad he pushed. That he said what you were too scared to say. It took everything in you to maintain eye contact while admitting, "I like you Pope. A lot.". His smile only widened. He let out a low excited laugh. He grabbed you other hand and pulled you closer to him wrapping your arms around his shoulders. Forcing you to stand on your tiptoes. You let out a nervous giggle at his advance. He rested his hand on the side of you face looking back and forth between both of your eyes. Before you had time to react his lips were locked to yours. You smiled as he pulled away from your brief sweet peck. You rested your foreheads together. "I like you too Y/n." He confessed breathlessly.
The rest of the night you didn't let go of his hand. He walked you up to your door. He usually stopped in your drive way and you walked up yourself. You lived on figure eight. You didn't consider yourself to be a kook, but you didn't consider yourself to be a pogue either. There was a gray area and that's where you fell. You had friends on both sides of the island. As you and Pope stood across from each other on your porch, your dad flickered the porch light from the living room. "I think that's my cue." Pope joked with a sigh. You took him by the collar of his shirt and gently pulled him down to you level. You pressed your lips to his. You placed your other hand on the back of his head, running your fingers through his short hair.
Your dad pulled back the curtains and tapped on the window. You pulled away from Pope and shot your dad a glare. Pope let out a belly laugh at the altercation. "See you tomorrow?" He double checked as he started his way down the stairs slowly. You reached for the door knob "I'll text you." You promised. You didn't want to go inside. You didn't want Pope to leave. But at the very least, you were excited for tomorrow.
