Chapter Four

After a few minutes, Camilo and I got up. Camilo changed into some dry clothes and walked me home so I could get changed.

After that, Camilo and I started to walk back to his home. We saw Alma trying to console the Guzman's when suddenly, hundreds of weird looking, but really pretty plants sprouted up from the ground. One of them hit Mariano on his nose again.

Alma looked at her house and Camilo and I followed her gaze. She had already stormed off to the house when we saw Isabella and Mirabel jumping around and singing. Isa was covered in so many colors! She looked beautiful!

Camilo and I shared an excited glance and started running to the casita. There were a few plants that spit colored pollen at us, so by the time we had reached the casita, I had pink in my hair and he had green on his poncho. We laughed as we dusted ourselves off and walked inside.

"YOU HAVE TO STOP, MIRABEL!" we heard Alma shout, immediately silencing our laughter.

I flinched as the ground shook, cracks starting to form in the casita. I looked over and saw Luisa and Isabella looking guilty as the rest of the family filed in.

"The cracks started with you, Bruno left because of you! Luisa's losing her powers, Isabella's out of control, because of you! I don't know why you weren't given a gift, but it is not an excuse for you to hurt this family!" Alma yelled at Mirabel, who looked like she was on the bridge of tears.

As Alma was yelling at Mirabel, the cracks spread. There was then, a moment of silence as the cracks slowly creeped towards the two.

"I..will never be good enough for you. Will I?" Mirabel said, choking back tears. "No matter how hard I try..."

Mirabel looked up sadly at her siblings.

"No matter how hard any of us try," Mirabel's tone slowly changed in that moment of realization. "Luisa will never be strong enough, Isabella won't be perfect enough.. Bruno left our family because you only saw the worst in him..."

"Bruno didn't care about this family!" Alma shouted, frustrated.

"He loves this family. I love this family. We ALL love this family! You're the one that doesn't care! You're the one breaking our home!" Mirabel spoke, tone rising.

"Don't you ever..!" Alma started but Mirabel interrupted. She looked Alma straight in the eyes.

"The miracle is dying, because of you!" At that moment, right as Mirabel finished, there was a look of regret in Alma's eyes. The cracks finally won, splitting the floor between the two.

"No,no, no!" I heard Pepa shout as the the cracks seeped up the walls.

"The candle!" Félix shouted right after. We all shot our heads to the candle, which was rapidly melting, about to fall into the dark abyss the cracks had made.

"Casita! Get me up there!" I heard Mirabel shout. I shot my head towards her as she ran toward the candle. The Casita uses its falling parts to assist Mirabel.

Isa starts using her vines to try and reach the candle, but they disappear and she falls. The casita catches her and lands her safely.

I go to grab Camilo's hand, but he's not there. I start frantically looking around when I see him on the second floor, shapeshifting around falling debris in order to get to the candle. But before he could reach the roof, his power vanishes and he falls.

"CAMILO!" I shouted as he fell. The casita used a guard rail to catch him as he landed, stunned. I ran up to him immediately checking him, making sure he wasn't hurt.
