chapter 10: funerals and ex boyfriends

It was Saturday, the day of Hiram Lodge's funeral. 

The past few days, everyone had done their best to comfort Veronica and her family as they go through this.

Archie especially had very mixed feelings on the death of Hiram Lodge.

He wouldn't wish the death of a father on anyone, especially Veronica, but it was Hiram.

The man who had hurt him and his friends countless times. 

With Veronica fighting with Reggie, he had promised her he would be by her side during the funeral.

Veronica walked into the funeral home a few hours before the service. She helped set up some flowers beside his open casket. 

She was wearing her pearls. Not because her father could control her anymore, but because it was the most important gift he had even given her.

Hermosa walked over to Veronica, giving her a side hug, "Are you okay?"

"I will be, once this is over. It's just hard to finally say goodbye," She cried.

"I know, but think of it this way. He isn't going to hurt anyone else now. It's over, and you can think of the happy memories," Hermosa smiled.

"You're right," Veronica smiled sadly, looking over at the open casket.

"Are your friends coming?" Hermosa asked.

"Yeah, they should be here soon. They said they'd be here early."

"Including Archie?" Hermosa teased.

"Yes, Hermosa. And remember, I'm with Reggie now, so don't make things weird please."

"Me? Make things weird?" Hermosa laughed, joking. She walked into the other room.

Veronica looked over to the doors, seeing Archie, Betty, Jughead, Toni, and Cheryl walk in.

"Oh, Veronica," Cheryl sighed, hugging her friend.

"How are you holding up?" Jughead asked her.

"I'm dealing," Veronica sighed.

"I'm sorry, Ronnie," is all Archie could get out.

"I know you are," Veronica nodded.

"No matter what Hiram did, he loved you so much," Toni assured her.

"That's what makes this hard."

"We're here for you, V," Betty sighed.
