chapter 6: an unexpected call

Betty sat in her living room, going over the case files. Her mom wasn't home.

She was focused. She couldn't let anyone else get hurt because of her.

Just then, her phone rang.

Unknown.

She answered it, "Hello?"

"How's your boyfriend, Betty?"

Betty gasped. That voice. That was the voice of the TBK. The man who caused more trauma to her in two weeks than her whole life beforehand. 

"What do you want, you psychopath?" She muttered, staring at the fireplace.

She was very timid as her mind traced back to the time spent in captivity. To the sound of the chainsaw above her, being held by the TBK himself. To the hopelessness.

"P-Please," She cried out, staring at the TBK above from down in the well. It was day 7 of this.

Her hair was a mess, her body was covered in dirt.

He mocked her. He taunted her. Finally, he took out a chainsaw, holding it over the deep well.

Betty cried. She couldn't do this anymore. She just wanted it to end.

She thought of her family, and her friends. Of how she left things with everyone.

Her mom, who she promised to come back to and didn't. 

Of her sister, Polly, who she had left on very bad terms with.

Her best friend, Veronica, who she betrayed and never spoke with again.

Her next door neighbor, Archie, and how she hadn't spoken to him.

And of Jughead. Her ex-boyfriend who she never got over. She was supposed to have been at the book signing. She had planned out going in to catch the TBK and then being back in time. But she wasn't expecting to be taken hostage. She wasn't expecting to not be there to cheer him on. He must hate her. She didn't get to say goodbye, and this was it.

On one end, she wanted to keep fighting and escape. But on the other, she was too weak. She could barely stand. She was dehydrated, hungry, and out of hope.

She snapped back into reality from her flashbacks as his mellow voice spoke again.

"I see your boyfriend's out of the hospital. Tragic incident, I must say."

"You hurt Archie? I knew it. Look, you can come after me, but leave my family and my friends the hell alone," She yelled.
