For the first time since Kaden met Serenity, he dreaded going home that evening.

It wasn't because he didn't want to see her, or because he was in any way scared of her, but because he just couldn't believe what he had learned. He knew it was only one way to be completely sure, and that was to confront Serenity about it.

And that itself, was the very thing he dreaded.

As he did return home that evening, he found his mate sitting on their front porch, awaiting his return. What Kaden didn't know, was that Serenity dreaded turning to the next chapter in their life just as much as him.

If not even more.

When he caught her sitting there, he came to a sudden stop. As for Serenity; she stood from her place at the stairs. Then, they both simply stared at each other, or more like observed the other, trying to figure out what the other one was thinking.

"He told you, didn't he?" her voice was fragile, reflecting what she felt in that moment

Kaden let out a heavy sigh, but decided to not start this conversation yet. He wanted to preserve their bond as it was, before they would put the most difficult strain on it that they had ever endured until this day.

"Let's just... talk inside" he mumbled to her as he walked past her

She watched him walk towards the door to their house, and let the feeling of hopelessness brew inside of her as she followed her soulmate inside.

They didn't make it very far, considering Kaden had stopped to hang his coat on one of the hangers and then hung it back inside the little closet room by the hallway where people were able to hang off their jackets.

Serenity stared anxiously at his back as he moved around, and if it wasn't for their current situation, Serenity admitted to want to jump him when she saw how much merely the muscles of his back flexed through his shirt each time he simply moved his arms.

"I took care of Eric" Kaden decided to begin

But it wasn't what Serenity wanted to hear, she didn't want to put this conversation on hold for any longer, not when it only made her this anxious. She didn't want to discuss Eric, she didn't care one bit about him. She only cared about Kaden.

She hated how sickly this made her feel. She wasn't exactly used to feeling these strong emotions, so naturally, she resented herself for allowing this to affect her this much.

"I banished him and his pack from our lands-" he continued as he dragged his hands through his hair— "So he won't bother you anymore"

She wanted to scoff at his comment, but she refrained from doing so and told herself it wasn't the right time.
