"She's awake"

The second my words left my mouth, Leo rose from his half sleeping position on the armchair and stared expectingly back at the woman he claimed to be his mate. Since she had just woken up, she was still blinking profusely while she tried to take ahold of her surroundings.

The minute she did however, she was immediately alarmed by the very foreign place she had ended up in. She sat up in an instant, and looked around the room while trying to control her breathing.

"Talk to her" I instructed Leo, but once again he didn't surprise me by doing the complete opposite

"What?"

"If she's really your mate, your voice might calm her" I explained to him

He licked his dry lips, and slowly nodded his head. He looked back at her, and once he had taken a few steps towards her, she turned her full attention to him.

"Hey..." he stiffly smiled at her, as he now sat beside her on the couch

My theory was proven right.

When she had locked her eyes with his, and felt his warmth radiating off of him, her breaths slowed down and she certainly seemed calmer.

"I know you're confused and all but I can assure you that you're safe with us"

Her still tired eyes once again scanned the room until they landed on me, but they didn't stay for long since I suspected her gaze was drawn back to him.

"Can you tell me your name?" he gently asked her

I had my doubts on whether Leo had told me the truth when he said he had found another mate, but seeing how their bodies were naturally drawn to each other by some pull that was clear to be the mate bond building between them, those doubts began to fade away.

"Himari" she finally uttered in a slight foreign accent

"Hemari?" Leo looked beyond perplexed as he repeated her name

"Hi-mari" she spoke, this time a little slower

"Himari? That's your name?" Leo followed, and once she nodded in affirmation, he smiled in an act of triumph

That at least settled where she descended from; Japan.

His smile was so contagious, that her own pouty lips lifted into a small smile. It was as if their bodies were itching to be touched by the other, to be in each other's embrace, because they went from sitting on either sides of the couch, to sitting so close to each other that their thighs almost brushed upon each other.

Watching them interact, watching their bond strengthen by each minute spent in each other's presence, made the hole in my chest dig deeper into my aching heart.
