Someone Should Go

Here we go. Eli and I were headed into the backyard of Miyagi-Do. I hadn’t slept all night, not even with Eli, I was a nervous wreck, but…. A confident nervous wreck- shut up, it’s a thing. We headed over to the rest of the group, boy did Mr. Larusso look happy to see us.

“Well. Look who decided to come back”

Everyone turned around to see us. Eli had a smile on his face, he actually looked happy, genuinely happy. Mr. Larusso smiled as he walked down to the grass to greet us.

“It’s good to see you Eli, and you too Harley” Mr. Larusso nodded, before stopping to correct himself “Or is it Hawk?” Well, at least if any of us even decided to come out as trans we know Mr. Larusso will be supportive.

“Uh- it doesn’t matter. I’m just here to do what I can to help out the team” Eli smiled

“That’s good” Mr. Larusso was trying to contain himself. Demetri was definitely happy “The more help the better. But first, you both need gi’s”

“Yeah don’t get your hopes us” I chuckled “I’m just here to drop him off”

“I see,” Mr. Larusso nodded. “You’re fighting for Eagle Fang?”

“Nope” I shook my head

“What?” Demetri spoke up “Harley we talked about this-”

“Relax Samwise” I chuckled, seeing everyone look at me confused. This seems to be an ongoing pattern for me “I’m fighting unaffiliated”

“What!?” everyone except Eli exclaimed

“There’s no way I’m gonna win all over best dojo, I know that” I nodded with a smile. “But if I can make my way to the finals, and I don’t even have to win, I just wanna get there….. I’m taking back karate… I’m taking my life back into my hands” I smiled, looking over at Eli, who was giving me a proud smile “It’s my decision…. This is the best, for me”

“I’m proud of you Harles” Demetri nodded with a smile

“Me too” Mr. Larusso smiled as well “Even if I could use you-…. Have you told your dad yet?”

“Hah” I chuckled shaking my head “On that note, I must leave the frying pan, and step into the fire”

“Good luck kid” Mr. Larusso patted my shoulder

I gave him a respectful nod, leaning up and giving Eli a quick peck on the lips before leaving them all to train, and heading back to my car. Out of the frying pan and into the fire was right, my dad’s gonna kill me.

I drove up to the apartment building, I sat in my car for a while, trying to collect myself. I cracked my neck more times than I could count, but that wasn’t helping. Finally I knew I just had to go for it, so I walked straight into Miguel’s apartment. I wanted to tell him first as sort of a warm up, but of course as my luck goes, dad was there too. 

“Oh wow, look who’s finally come home” Dad nodded “Kid sit down actually this is for the both of you”

I gave Miguel a confused look, he just shrugged. I sighed, okay…. Not the end of the world, I can tell him after. I walked over and stood beside Miguel, leaning on his shoulder while Carmen and dad sat on the couch together.

“Okay?” I tried to get them to start talking

“You go”

“No, you” Carmen insisted

Dad and Carmen just stared at us, by now we both knew what this was about, it was kinda funny to see the both of them get all squirmy, but I also just don’t have time for this.
