Recap - The Night Lights had been grounded after travelling to New Berk, but Dart got bored and went down to the lake to fish. There she received news that a boat had passed close to the Hidden World recently.

On another day, Dart would've felt very lucky, her parents didn't seem to be angry at her for her little trip to the Hidden World, and she was safely snuggled up against her two brothers and parents. But she had something on her mind that kept her from appreciating this. She really wanted to meet humans after their first encounter at New Berk, which hardly counted as they didn't even know she was there. And now was her chance! There had been a human sighting recently, but instead of chasing after it she was stuck here, grounded in the Hidden World.

When she eventually drifted off to sleep, she dreamt of flying free above wide open spaces, exploring the outside world and meeting all the amazing creatures...

...

Fuchsia crystals sparkled in the early morning light and Dart drew a deep, content breath. Her parents were already out at work, it was a glorious day for adventure. If only her brothers shared that same enthusiasm. They would not be pleased with Dart's decision. Unfortunately, they didn't have much of a choice on that matter.

"ROAAAARRR!!!" Dart roared in their ears. Her brothers' screams of terror made her day, which she then realised was a bit mean and apologised.

"Why would you do that to us," complained Ruffrunner.

"Come on sleepyheads. You'll thank me later," replied Dart. She explained her plan, "We'll sneak outside to have a look at this boat, Stormfly said it was heading South. There we can see the humans and learn about them."

She looked at Ruffrunner expectantly, she knew he loved learning about new creatures and what they could do.

However, she frowned as Ruffrunner said, "I don't think we should, we'll get in trouble. Plus, humans can be dangerous. They're one of the only other creatures that can hurt or kill a dragon."

"I agree," added Pouncer.

"Fine," said Dart, "we'll just look around the entrance for anything they may have accidently dropped or something."

Of course, she had no intention of just stopping at the entrance. Pillars of Fireworms danced past them as they flew over shining rivers, alive with bioluminescence. The Entrance Cave, a vast maw of dark rock, sat ominously before them, faint lights of dragon eggs flickering in the inky black. A whisper of dread slithered through the air. Or was it something else? A deep growl emanated from Dart's throat and she saw her brothers' ears prick up at the sound. Something ancient, something primal, an instinct told Dart that something evil lay ahead.
