We all got ready at Yasmine's house. She did my hair and makeup so I looked amazing. I was so excited for the dance tonight, I'm so hoping Eli will dance with me.
"Yas, who are you going to dance with tonight?" I ask her.
She looks up at me from where she's doing her makeup, "Slow dance?"
"Yeah, duhhh." I reply. Her lingo is rubbing off on me.
"Nobody is good enough to dance with me," Yasmine answers. We love a confident queen. "Are you dancing with anyone?"
Hopefully Eli. "Maybe." I turn to Sam, "Are you dancing with Kyler?"
She smiles, "Probably. He said he has something to give me, and it has to be just us." That's concerning.
"Oh?" I say. "Do you know what it is?"
Sam shakes her head, "Not yet. I guess I'll find out."
~~~
The dance was crowded. The girls and I were dancing with Kyler's group, and Dean has tried to get close to me a couple times but I've been able to discreetly push him off.
I see someone in a full body skeleton costume and it takes me a moment to realize that it's Miguel. He's walking up to Demetri and Eli so I decide to go say hi. I tell the girls I'll be back and Dean winks at me even though I wasn't talking to him.
Eli smiles at me when he sees me approaching, I can see his smile in his eyes. His mask is covering his face.
I get there right as Miguel turns to Eli, "So are you a regular doctor or?"
"Plastic surgeon," Eli says. "I fix lips."
"Nice."
I interrupt, "Hi guys, I like your costumes."
Demetri turns to me, "Do you know what I am?"
"I'm gonna go with necromancer?"
He cheers, "Finally! Somebody got it. I'm impressed you knew that."
I smirk, "I know my stuff."
Eli makes eye contact with me, "I like your costume."
"Thanks," I reply. "Are you gonna dance?"
This question was directed towards Eli but Demetri answers. "Dance?" He says. "We don't know how to dance." Don't get me wrong, I like Demetri, but sometimes he needs to stop talking so much.
"I'll show you how," I go to grab Eli's hand but he pulls back.
"I'm okay, I don't want to embarrass myself." He turns away from me.
"I have to go to the washroom," Demetri says. Eli agrees and they leave together.
Miguel turns to me, "I'll dance with you. If you want, of course."
I laugh, "I'd love to." He takes my hands as we walk out onto the dance floor. It's really fun dancing with Miguel, everything is so easy with him. "Are you having fun?"
He nods, "I am, it's fun dancing with you. I should probably go check up on the guys though." It's good timing because Moon calls over to me that they're going live on instagram, so I go join the girls while Miguel looks for Eli and Demetri.
I start cheering on live until I feel someone's hand trailing up my thigh, I turn to see Dean smirking at me as I smack his hand away. Then I spin Sam and I around until she's in between me and Dean.
The girls and I start dancing until Sam leaves with Kyler so Yas, Moon and I all go get some punch. I turn around for one second, and turn back to see that Yas and Moon have left me, and Dean is standing right in front of me.
"Move," I say trying to walk around him.
He plants himself in front of me, "I think we got off on the wrong foot. You're best friends with Sam, and I'm best friends with Kyler, this would work."
"No it wouldn't," I'm disgusted, to say the least. He tries to grab my waist but I push him off me and run into the hall. I run directly into someone. "Johnny?"
"Miss Adams?" He looks so confused, "What are you doing here?"
"I go here."
Johnny scratches his head, "Oh yeah." Then he seems to notice how distressed I am. "Are you okay?"
I nod, "Just some guy was bothering me. It's nothing."
He looks annoyed that I said that, "That's not nothing. Nobody should be touching you without your permission. I hope you broke his nose."
"I just ran away." I should've broken his nose.
Johnny gets even more annoyed. "You ran away?" he questions. Then he clenched his fists, "Want me to go break his nose?"
I laugh, "It's okay, but thank you."
He nods, "Fine. But my offer is always there if you need it."
"I appreciate that," I say laughing.
"I saw you punching that dummy after practice the other night," Johnny starts. "You have real potential. I don't think you should give up on karate so fast."
I shrug, "I can't do it right now."
He tilts his head, "Is it a money thing?"
"No. Well, maybe. I don't know. I just know it isn't for me right now. I might rejoin later."
"Well," Johnny thinks about this for a moment. "Whenever you're ready to come back, I won't charge you." Then he points a finger at me, "Just don't tell Miguel."
I laugh again, "I won't mention anything."
Just then I see Sam walking towards the exit so I say goodbye to Johnny and run after her. I lightly grab her arm, "Sam, why are you leaving?"
She's practically crying, "My dad just completely embarrassed me in front of Kyler, and Yasmine just sent out a really mean text about Aisha and I didn't even do anything." She wipes her eyes, "Tonight is not going how I wanted at all."
I pull her in for a hug, telling her not to cry. "I'm sure Kyler barely even noticed whatever happened. And is Aisha the girl from lunch?"
Sam laughs sarcastically, "Oh Kyler definitely noticed what happened. And yeah, that's Aisha. Yasmine is so mean to her and I feel so guilty because Aisha and I were friends for so long but I'm finally friends with the popular kids and I don't wanna ruin anything."
I nod, "I completely understand. I mean, Yasmine barely even lets me talk to my other friends during school hours."
"That's different, she doesn't make fun of those guys to their face."
"Yeah but I'm sure Kyler and his friends do," I argue.
Sam gets so offended as she crosses her arms and steps away from me. Whoops, I forgot they were dating, my bad. "Kyler is a nice guy, he doesn't even talk to those guys."
I try to stay polite, but she's my friend so I think I should warn her. "He tried to beat up Miguel."
Sam shakes her head, "He would never."
"You didn't see his black eye?" I ask her.
"He said it was from wrestling."
I give her a look. "Wrestling?" I say. "Who's throwing punches at wrestling?"
"Can we just drop it? Please?" Sam is frustrated and you can tell.
I cross my arms, "Okay. I just don't want to see you get hurt. You're my best friend."
She smiles a bit, "I know, and I appreciate that. But I know what I'm doing."
"How about we stop by in and out, get some burgers, and then go watch an old halloween movie at your place?" I say, trying to lighten the mood. We're both so annoyed and it's halloween, we shouldn't be.
Sam smiles big now, "That sounds amazing. Let's go." The rest of the night was perfect. I didn't hear from the guys though, I thought at least Miguel would've texted me wondering where I went. I hope their night was okay, and I can't be mad at Eli for not dancing with me because I really enjoyed dancing with Miguel. Maybe Eli just isn't interested in me? Maybe Miguel is?
