Y/N Pov
As we entered the Great Hall, my ears were immediately filled with the excitable chattering of the new first years. I did a quick scan of the room. Instantly, I noticed the very different vibes of each table: Gryffindor looked very proud, like they were advertising their house to all their potential newcomers; the Ravenclaw table didn't seem particularly interested in the first years, they were talking amongst themselves and huddled round puzzles and letters; every single member of Hufflepuff were smiling and laughing, they projected the colour yellow perfectly; the Slytherin table, however, was not as energetic, they still smiled and laughed but in a more deprecating way. Every member of the house was sniggering at the new first years; judging and teasing them. The superiority complex was screaming out, especially from a certain group.
Three boys sat at the head of the table. They all had sharp features and smouldering looks. My teenage brain couldn't take my eyes of them, they were probably all wretched characters but fuck, they were hot.
I gave Eleanor a nudge. She didn't respond so I nudged again. Still nothing, I looked at her. She was bewildered by something. A look of adoration was beaming from her eyes. I tried to follow her gaze and landed on a girl. She was sat at the Gryffindor table with gentle features and long brown hair. Jesus, this school is filled with beautiful people. Eleanor snapped out of her adoring trance.
"I- hm?". She said shaking off her daze. I laughed a tiny laugh.
"Do you know them?". I asked, gesturing to the three boys.
"Do you not know them ?!?". She looked almost offended.
"No?! Should I??".
"You should!". I looked at her, confused. She smiled and gave me a teasing nudge. "That one there is Blaise Zabini: pureblood son of the famously beautiful, and rather scandalous, Miss Zabini". I studied his face again, traced his jawline with my eyes and practically melted into his ebony complexion.
"Wow. If he's that perfect, I would rather like to meet his mother." Ellie laughed and continued her introduction.
"Far left is Theodore Nott. Rumoured grandson of esteemed author: Cantankerous Nott and the heir to a rather hefty inheritance".
"Exactly how hefty are we talking?". I said in a teasing manner.
"Pretty damn hefty". She said raising her eyebrows. We giggled and made a few more juvenile comments on how Theodore's inheritance may not be the only hefty thing around here. Composing herself, Eleanor continued.
"And the one in the middle is-" She stopped in her tracks as our view of the third boys face was suddenly blocked...By Pansy. She sat provocatively on his lap and pulled his face into a far too sexual kiss for literally sitting amongst a bunch of 11-year-olds.
"Ew." Ellie muttered under her breath.
"Bitch." I whispered.
Any further bitching was promptly brought to halt by the bang of a staff on the smooth wooden floor. Professor Dumbledore stood proudly at his gold embellished lectern. A tall, stern-faced witch stood beside him dresses in emerald green robes.
"Welcome to Hogwarts!" said the witch. "My name is Professor McGonagall. The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses."
Dumbledore spoke up, "The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours."
