Since Sam had totaled his car saving Ophelia, she made him a deal that until it was fixed, she would drive him wherever he needed to go. Unfortunately, that meant she had to be in the car with him for long periods of time almost every day. She pulled up outside the hall his class was in, quickly texting him to tell him that she was there. He didn't respond. He never did when she told him she was outside, and it always made her wonder if he saw the message or not. But he eventually came outside, like he was now, strolling up to her car with his friends. He opens her door, dipping his head down to look at her. "They live in Landon too. Would you care if we drove them back with us?" Sam asks, nodding towards his friends who were standing behind him.Ophelia let out a sigh, turning down her music a little before nodding. "That's fine." The three of his friends get into the backseat as Sam gets into the front, taking Ophelia's phone and changing the music to whatever he wanted to listen to. "Just because I'm giving you rides doesn't mean you get aux privileges." Ophelia grumbles, looking at the three boys in the rear view mirror. "Can you guys put your seatbelts on?" She turns back to them, raising an eyebrow. "Woah. What happened to your face?" He asks, making Ophelia tense up. Her black eye was almost totally healed at that point, given the fact it had been a week since the incident. "Why would you need to know that?" Sam shakes his head at his friend. "Just curious. You didn't do that, right?" He furrows his eyebrows, leaning back against the seat. "No, dipshit."
"Seatbelts. Please." Ophelia repeats, keeping her hand on the gearshift as she stares straight forward. "Damn, loosen up a bit." One of his friends says, and Ophelia's mouth twitches. "Oh, just put your seatbelts on. It's not that big of a deal, and you don't wanna piss her off." Sam grins back at the other boys. They all start laughing as they finally click their seatbelts into place. "What exactly is that supposed to mean?" She asks, gripping the steering wheel in annoyance as she pulls out of her parking spot. "Uh oh. She's pissed off." The one in the middle said, making Ophelia even more annoyed. Sam didn't respond to her, he only laughed at what his friend said. She turned the music up nearly as loud as it could go, in hopes it would drown out any of their abilities to form a thought.
They all sang along to whatever song Sam was playing, but Ophelia stayed silent. She felt like the two minute drive was five hours long as the frustration settled in her chest, thinking about what Sam had said. "Hey, James, can you take us to the gas station? We gotta get snacks for tonight." Sam asks, and Ophelia quickly turns her car the opposite way. "You couldn't have asked that 30 seconds ago?" She lets out a sigh, making her way down the road and to the gas station. "So where ya from?" The boy in the middle asks her, and she shoots him a glare through the rear view mirror. "Saginaw." She says abruptly, driving a little faster so she didn't have to be in the car much longer. "Sammy, isn't that where you grew up?" Sam sighs at the question, "Basically." Ophelia could tell he'd probably told his friends a hundred times where he'd grown up, but they didn't care to remember. She pulled the car into the gas station, throwing it in park and getting out quickly. They followed her inside, making a beeline straight to the snacks. Ophelia kept her distance as they shopped, pretending to look through the frozen foods as she listened to their conversation.
"So are you guys, like, a thing?" One of the boys asks, and Sam laughs in response. "No." He says, sounding quite confident in his answer. "You wouldn't mind if I made a move then, right?" There was a slight pause after the question, and Ophelia found herself waiting for Sam's response. "I don't think she's up to date anyone, she just got out of a shitty relationship." Sam says, and Ophelia lets out a sigh. "What about just hooking up? I kinda like that she's a bitch." She could hear the smile in his words, and she narrowed her eyes at her reflection in the glass window. "Unless you got dibs. In that case, I'll back off." The boy says, grabbing two bags of chips as he looked over at Sam. "I don't own her or anything. Go for it." Sam shrugs, and Ophelia rolls her eyes. She walks up to the four of them raiding the snack aisle, and turns to Sam. "I'm gonna go to the car. I forgot my card." She says quietly, wishing the others couldn't hear her. "I'll buy you whatever you want." Sam's friend says, shooting her a wink. "Just come out when you're done." She ignores his statement, then returns to her car.
