Five whole days had passed since what had happened at Jake's concert, and Ophelia still couldn't bring herself to talk to Sam. She and Jake had a mutual agreement that Sam would never find out about that night, but it was eating her alive. She knew it was stupid, and she was too drunk to think straight, but every single part of her wished it hadn't happened. But it had. And there was no going back now. Even though the two of them weren't technically together when it happened, that was still his brother. She couldn't imagine how he would feel when he found out. She knew she had to tell him. She wished she didn't, but keeping it from him might have been worse than telling him. She grabs her phone, feeling a lump forming in her throat as her thumbs hover over the keyboard. Before she could send anything, the device buzzes in her hand.sam:
'i need to talk to you.'Her stomach turned as she read the words, trying to swallow back the bubble in her throat. She didn't respond to his text - instead, she rushed out of her room and down to the next floor. She knocked on Sam's door quickly, her heart racing in her chest as she waited for him to open it. The door swung open, and Ophelia groaned when it was only Joanna on the other side. "Damn. Hello to you, too." Joanna mumbles, opening the door to let her in. "Where's Sam?" Ophelia asks abruptly, stepping inside the room and letting Joanna shut the door behind her. "He, um, stepped out for a minute. He should be back soon. What's up?" She asks, giving Ophelia a concerned look when she noticed how stressed she seemed.
Ophelia sat down on Sam's bed, running a hand through her hair and looking up at the girl. "I fucked up. Really fucking bad." She admits, watching as Joanna takes a seat beside her. "What happened?" She puts her hand on Ophelia's back in an attempt to comfort her, but Ophelia only sighs. She squeezes her eyes shut, swallowing hard before speaking. "I slept with Sam's brother a few days ago. I was drunk, and I wasn't thinking, and... and I would take it back if I could, but... fuck." She groans, burying her face in her hands. "Oh." Joanna says, taking a breath. "Was that before or after you broke up with Sam?"
"After. I'm not that bad of a person." Ophelia mumbles, rubbing her forehead. "He texted me and told me he needs to talk to me. I think he might know." She says, staring at the wall across the room. "Maybe he wants to tell you something he did." Joanna shrugs, leaning back against the wall. Ophelia turns, giving the dark-haired girl a look. "Like what? Did he do something too?" She furrows her eyebrows, wondering what Joanna might have known. The girl was silent for a few moments, and Ophelia could feel the awkwardness thickening in the air.
"Like... maybe he slept with someone, too." She offers, and Ophelia's heart begins to race in her chest. She waited for Joanna to say more, but she remained silent. "Okay. Who did he sleep with?" Ophelia squints, noticing she was now avoiding eye contact. Joanna looked at her bed like it was a crime scene. Ophelia's heart dropped into her stomach when she figured out the look. "Oh." She says, no louder than a whisper. "Okay." She nods, the same lump forming in her throat once again. She had flashbacks to the first time she had met Joanna, when she had said she's not the type to sleep with someone else's boyfriend. Ophelia had trusted her entirely for the past month the two of them had been living together, but now, she felt sick at the sight of her.
"When?" Was all Ophelia could muster as she stared at the floor. Maybe this wasn't so bad. Joanna was definitely more in Sam's league than Ophelia was - maybe he would be happier with her. "Tuesday. The night you guys broke up. It was the same kind of deal, we were both drunk, he was upset, and... I don't know. It just kind of happened." Joanna explains, her voice low. Ophelia stands up, grabbing her phone and clenching her jaw. She knew she had absolutely no right to be mad after what she had done, but the fact that it was her made it hurt so much worse than it would have if it were anyone else. "I have to go." Ophelia says quickly, and Joanna grabs her arm.
