Luffy froze when he saw the scene before him, it was you and Usopp, he had his arms tightly around your waist while your arms were around his neck, your lips against his, molding perfectly like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle.

Recently Luffy noticed that he felt different around you, how he seemed to be happier with your presence, how he felt a funny feeling in his stomach, how his heart seemed to almost jump out of his chest when you laughed or grinned, how when you hugged him and he wished he could hold you close and never let you go.

... And now, he really wishes he'd never let you go.

With a few conversations with Nami and Sanji, he realized that he liked-- no, he loved you and that you were the only person he longed to be by his side, not only when he fulfilled his dream, but for life. So he decided to confess to you that afternoon.

He came to his senses when the two of you broke apart and Usopp leaned his forehead against yours grinning brightly before hugging you, kissing the top of your head and rocking lightly and slowly back and forth, the sun setting in the background making the scenery even more romantic and without realizing that Luffy was there.

He silently left and went to his special place in Sunny, where he could be alone.  He sat down and was lost in his own thoughts, oddly enough...

... "Has it always been this way? Have you always been so distant?" He muttered, thinking about all the times he saw you spending time with Usopp, he noticed that you and he spent a lot of time together, but he never thought anything about it, he thought the two of you were just close friends. "I'm an idiot. I should have realized! Damn it!" He punched the ground and brought both hands to his head, tightly gripping his hat.

Honestly he still couldn't fully understand what he saw but he was sure of two things; you would never look at him the way he looks at you. And that now he would have to watch you every day throw yourself into the arms of a man who isn't him. And that man is his best friend.

Don't get me wrong, he wasn't angry with you or Usopp, but with himself. Maybe if he had found out earlier things would have been different? Who knows.

But in a certain way, he was still kind of... optimistic?? Luffy knows Usopp very well, and Luffy knows he'll take good care of you, so at least he knows you'll be happy.

AWAAAAAAAAA I'M CRYING 😭😭😭 poor Luffy :(
I hope you enjoyed it anyway cuz I did!
I was feeling like writing angst so yeah :)
And a fun fact: I decided that the guy the reader would date was Usopp because mostly in stories like this the reader ends up with Zoro or Sanji so I wanted to be a little different. :D
