The night sky is brighter than the last as the moon hangs low and full. The stars twinkle softly and wait patiently for approval from the moon.
I look up to the sky and gulp harshly while the cool and refreshing water trails down my throat.
It was my turn tonight. After Victoria left, and we officially lost her, we had begun taking 'shifts' of keeping watch. My turn was smack-down in the middle of the night. Well, closer to four in the morning, but considering the late afternoon is my usual coffee-time, it's understandable.
I didn't need the sleep, though. Danny and Sam were the ones who needed it most.
They are huddled together, preserving warmth and overall keeping one-another warm. Shouta was near them to stay safe, but far enough to stay chilly.
He looks lonely. His eye bags are darker and his sleeping bag is colder for some reason. Was it me?
After our fight, I couldn't walk away from him. Or tell him my honest feelings. I'm fully aware that I need to work on it, but who cares? I'll have Touya to myself soon and be able to tell Shouta to mess off and go run into the sunset with another woman. But I can't.
Why? Not sure. I couldn't ever tell Shouta that.
Touya doesn't know, but I went to primary school with Sam and Shouta in the Shizuoka Prefecture. I didn't know Touya until around a year-and-a-half ago, three months after we met we'd become official.
But, in school, Sam and Shouta were the only people I hung out with. I was, and still am, smart and hardworking, and so are they. We would hang out at the library and study for hard tests and other things. That's when he met Oboro.
Years later, right before we started our first year at high school, Shouta got accepted to UA. Sam and I didn't. We ended up going somewhere else while Shouta attended the high school with Oboro.
Sam and I weren't jealous or angry when it came to him; we were proud. But we also became more distant as the years rolled by. Because of the differences in our educational facilities, we never saw him
When we would text him if he was free to hang out, he'd always text us back
"Can't. Training, but you can text me later," He'd reply.
Yes, he was there before Touya, but he didn't stay after that.
"What are you gawking at," Shouta says, his deep voice becoming raspy. "Er, nothing." Why can't I ever tell the truth around him?
"Tell me the truth, (Y/N). I need to know," He says delicately. I nod and scoot closer to him. Doing things I'm not comfortable with is the first step of building a semi-decent relationship; Leave your comfort zone. "I was just thinking," I tell him. He blinks softly. "About what?" I rub my arms to keep heat flowing to them. The cold air was finally biting back, not that I wanted it. "Er, when we met and when you got into UA."
He nods. "Anything else?"
I shake my head in disapproval. "No," I say hastily. He looks away and unzips his sleeping bag. "You look freezing and this is huge. Come here," He offers. My eyes widen. "I couldn't, it's my shift anyway," I respond. He rolls his eyes.
Shouta leans up and takes off his sweater. The wind rolls by and runs through his sweater while caressing his bare chest. I smell the light yet delicious cologne pass through me. "Then wear this." His hand lifts and shows the sweater off to me.
"No, I couldn't do that either. It's freezing and I'll be fine. It's for another two hours, it'll get warmer," I tell him. He snickers. "Really? It begins to get warmer at seven. Your shift ends at six. take it, now," He demands. "Well, aren't you going to be cold?" He looks me up and down, from my eyes to my knees that held me up.
"No, remember?" He grabs hold of one of the sides of his sleeping bag, gesturing to it. I nod. "Are you sure?" He nods. "Of course, take it," He says softly. I take the jacket from him and put it on, feeling a little bit warmer instantly.
"Thank you," I tell him. He smiles and nods. "No problem."
For a moment there, I thought I'd need to get into his sleeping bag with his as it was the only option I knew of to keep warm.
--
The cold concrete floor didn't do my back justice, but at this point, I'll take whatever I can get. I feel the heat graze my back and look at my shirt, remembering Shouta's and my conversation from last night.
I was still wearing his hole-y sweater. It made me feel warm, yes, but the cold breeze running through it making makes me feel uncomfortable.
"Hey, I think you need to see this, (Y/N). Danny said he found a door, and," She stops.
"What?" I'm confused. I just woke up and now I'm being bombarded?
"Danny found a door. Follow me," She finished and grabs my hand treating my arm as a leash. I have no choice but to follow her.
We walk deeper into the darker hallways and see what looks like a common room, but more warehouse-y with Danny and Shouta. Danny's trying to pry it open while Shouta looks for any other way in. "I got her, she was half-awake," Sam says. I nod and look away. Rats and dirt litter the area. Ew.
"What happened? Did we find something?"
"I think so. It's the only locked door we've found in the last two days, so," Danny explains. I nod. I hear a click and immediately recognize that he popped the lock.
"(Y/N), do you want to do the honors, because quite frankly, I'm scared shitless," Danny says. I crack a small smile. At least he can lighten the mood. "Er, sure."
I walk up hesitantly and open the door. It takes a few moments to jam it open, but I get it.
I see a bright light flash on something suspended in the air. It takes my eyes a couple of seconds to adjust.
It's a man. It looks like-
Touya?
Oh my god.
Was he there the entire time? How did he get there? How did he get in the air? Who put him there? Why is he here?
"You got the lock unlocked? Damn, and I thought I did something," A voice said. "Oh, shut up, Keith."
Keith?!
Victoria?
