Chapter Twenty Four

Maia was put into a hospital room after she was checked on. They'd given her pain medicine to reduce her pain after she'd alerted them over everything that happened. Out of an abundance of caution and to make sure everything was okay, the doctor was in her room currently to give her an ultrasound. It was the first one that she'd have for this pregnancy and she was nervous as shit.

"When did you find out you were pregnant?" The doctor asked her as he looked at the screen while his hand moved the device around her stomach.

Maia had her eyes closed, still not used to the cool sensation on her stomach. "Uh, a few days ago," she answered truthfully. She'd found out while she was in Los Angeles. It was one of the reasons why she had thoughts of prolonging her stay, but Heaven wasn't having it. She encouraged her to go back home and face the music.

"Well," the doctor said as he continued gathering information based on what he was seeing, "so based on everything, I am putting you right at six weeks."

Maia nodded her head slowly. It was the same timeframe that she was thinking in her head, but part of her was hoping that it wasn't the case. "Is the baby fine?"

The doctor looked down to her and smiled brightly. "The baby is just fine. Just a little stress and the physical pain your body endured today. So, you can keep the pain medicine, but let's work on lowering that stress. You cannot put yourself in any stressful positions that you think you can't handle. Alright?"

Maia nodded her head. "Alright. Thank you."

"You're welcome. We'll keep you here overnight just for monitoring to make sure nothing goes awry, but if everything continues as is, you'll be free to go."

The doctor did a few more protocols before exiting the room. In the room with her was Zakari. Ever since he'd arrived, he had stuck by her side. At one point, she watched him silence his phone, citing that the department was ready for him to come in and make his statement. She was sure that it would be her turn pretty soon.

"Six weeks?" Zakari asked her softly. He was a smart man. In the short timespan that they'd gotten closer, he'd gotten to know her body. Not only did he know her body, he could recall every single time they had sex.

Fidgeting with her hands, Maia couldn't look at him. Six weeks ago would have been he mansion party that Jourdan had thrown. Six weeks ago, was when she'd had sex with Jourdan. Currently, a sex tape of her making a baby with this man was circulating the internet and he had no idea. "I'm sorry..."

Zak looked at her for a moment. It was hard to process the fact that the woman that he was with and loved was currently pregnant with another man's baby. "Why are you apologizing?"

"Because, it's my fault. Had I not just talked to you instead of.."

"There's no need in going back and apologizing. That shit happened and we moved on from it. We weren't together when it happened and that's all that matters. I can't be mad at you about something that happened when we weren't talking."

"But, we both know that we can't recover from this. We both know that you are not going to be with me while I carry Jourdan's baby."

He allowed her words to sink in. It was a rocky situation to be in. The love of his life was currently pregnant with another man's life. It was a situation that he never expected to be in. When he got back with Maia, he just knew shit would be peaches and cream with her. She'd laid everything out on the line with him. She'd told her deepest, darkest secret to him before she even told her own friends. When she needed help, she went to help. When she needed someone to protect where she was going, she entrusted him.
