Chapter Twenty Seven

In the day and age of social media, when you were the best friend and supposed love interest of a big celebrity, hiding your pregnancy just seemed like an impossible task. Maia had not been seen in public nor on her social media accounts since she'd found out that she was pregnant. The only way anyone saw her was if she was seen in a picture or video that her friends had posted on their photo dumps.

Holiday season was in full effect around the world and people were just much happier. The holiday season was always Maia's favorite time of the year. She loved the decoration, music, and just the spirit that it put most people in. While a lot of people had already put up their Christmas trees and things like that, Maia was still trying to find that perfect one. For her, this year just seemed more special than the other years.

She was currently twelve weeks pregnant and thankful to have rid herself of her morning sickness. Based on the apps that she had, her baby was the size of a lime, but based on her bump, she wouldn't believe you. She was sure that her unhealthy eating habits the past few weeks were a contributing factor and it was something that Zakari had been getting on to her about. Sure, she was pregnant, but the amount of tacos the girl was taking down was downright outrageous.

"Mai?" Zakari called out from the bedroom as she stood in the living room, looking out to the beautiful city. Fall made the city more beautiful with the different colored leaves and the attire people wore. As far as outfits went, Fall was definitely her favorite of them all.

"Yes?" She asked, snapping herself from her thoughts. At this point, the two of them were rotating on whose house they were staying at. It seemed like every other week they were at either of the residences, which made her wonder if they would soon make the decision to just move in with one another.

"Have you seen my gun?" He asked, stressing the hell out. He'd looked all over the bedroom, knowing that it was the last place he'd kept it. He never went to sleep without making sure that his gun was in the same room as him.

Knowing that she was going to be fussed at the moment she answered the question, she bit down on the corner of her bottom lip. He was standing in the frame of her bedroom, anticipating her response. "I moved it," she answered slowly.

"You did what?" Zakari asked her in disbelief. "You did what?" He asked once more in case she hadn't heard the question and how serious it was that she answered it. "Why would you do that?"

Maia breathed out, throwing her head back. She walked to the kitchen with him hot on her trail. She pulled out the first kitchen drawer, revealing his work gun. "You had left it —"

"Yeah, Maia, I had it on the nightstand next to where I sleep," he interrupted her. "If anyone was to break in your place, how the fuck do you expect to be protected with my gun all the way in the kitchen?"

Mai thought for a moment. "Can't you fight?"

Zakari opened his mouth to say something to her, but realized who he was talking about. Saying anything wrong to her could send her into a whirlpool of emotions and right now, he didn't have time to even get into it. He removed his gun and placed it in its rightful space. "A'Maia, I love you, but please don't touch my gun."

She knew it was wrong, but in the moment of doing it, she just did it. Mai leaned up against the counter, admiring him in his work uniform. "Sorry."

Zak didn't acknowledge her apology in the moment. Truthfully, he was still annoyed about it, because he was positive that she knew better than to ever touch a government issued gun. He glanced over her, remembering that she had something to do today. "Your appointment is today, right?"
