"Can you head out and get groceries?" Mother asked. 

"Of course." I headed out through the door, a plastic bag in my hand. I was an only child, and I personally loved helping out. I walked through our front garden and headed out. 


I looked down at the list in my hand. 

"Milk..." I read to myself, heading into the dairy section. All of the sudden, a hacking cough echoed through the aisle. I spun around, surprised to be greeted by the man I see every time my father takes me to the bank.

"Mr. Poe? How do you do..?" I said, trying to form a smile while flinching at his dry painful sounding coughs. 

Mr. Poe sighed, "Y/n, I have some very distressing news. Your parents have perished in a terrible fire that destroyed your home. Would you like to see it one last time?" 

I slowly sank to my knees. How could Mr. Poe be so... so normal about this? A wave of tears flooded down my cheek. He helped me up and we soon drove away to the remains of my burnt home...
