"Mom!"
Aoi felt like if she heard that word again, she would go insane. She was currently contemplating her life while hanging the clothes to dry. She acted as if she didn't hear the child that was clearly shouting for some stupid reason again.
Next to her stood Azuki, her oldest daughter as she helped her-or tried- to hang the clothes. She was an eight-year-old so she could not reach much. She often reminded her of herself when she was young though when she was bored, she was off causing chaos like their father.
Sitting on the ground staring off was Shirako. He was the only decent one really. He seemed to be dead calm all of the time and she even sometimes questioned if he was really her kid. He spaced out most of the time though he had a habit of running off into the mountains every now and again which sometimes worried her about what in the hell he was doing. She had been told by many of the people in the villages nearby that he scared off the wolves...which was just plain bizarre to her. Sometimes he brought back animals too.
"Mommy!" A different voice shouted this time.
"Mom?" Azuki asked.
"Yes?"
"Can I go play?"
Aoi looked down at her empty basket. "Yes, go play," she answered tiredly as the girl began to run off. "But don't break the table again!" she shouted but there was no answer.
She sighed, turning back and continued to hang the clothes.
"Mom,mom, mom," she felt someone tug on her dress, and she looked down to see Aoko, the toddler that was usually near her.
He usually hated being alone and always preferred to be around her rather than his dad. He stared up at her with his green eyes and blinked a couple of times before raising his arms. Instead of picking him up though she squatted knowing full well she could not hold four children at once.
She barely managed to keep her balance as the little one hugged her. She smiled. Aoko got both of their gentle sides which meant he was more sensitive. He was a big troublemaker though which meant a lot of crying on his behalf.
Once he backed away, she barely managed to stand up as she carried three children. She had two wrapped in a blanket on her back. They were twins Aouli and Aoichi. They were six months old and were a real pain. Since she had to take care of the house and make sure the children living in it didn't kill each other it was hard for her to watch over them easily. And that was why after the third one she carried inside her was the last one. She was five months pregnant for the sixth time she made it very clear she had no desire for anymore.
"Momma!"
She rolled her eyes amongst hearing the third shout for her name. The only reason Aoi didn't answer any of the triplets was because they really liked saying her title. Often annoying her with it. Aoi still remembered when she became their mother and how surprised and scared Kanao had been to have kids after seeing that it was possible to actually have more than one at once.
Kanao had always supported her, and they had become really good friends after Shinobu's death. Kanao married Tanjiro and they had two kids together and planned on hopefully having their third soon. Aoi got along well with Tanjiro; he often stopped by loving to play with all of her children.
Finally, Aoi put the final piece of clothing on the rack and sighed in relief smiling. Finally, Shirako reacted and looked up at his mother. He slowly got up and began to walk in the same direction his sister had gone on.
"Mom!" she heard again but this time Shirako shouted which actually worried her.
"What is it?!" she answered finally.
But before they could answer a tall man emerged from the house. He was at least a foot and a half taller than her. He had scars and messy dirty hair and blood on his body though she did not even shutter at his sight.
"Welcome back Inosuke," she said, her eyes already tired seeing the mess of husband that stood in front of her.
"Aoi," he answered embracing her,
She stood there and took his warmth. As soon as he backed away, he began to take off the blanket that carried the twins and placed it on his own back. He leaned down to kiss her softly and touch her hair and the soft skin he had missed. Once again, he backed away and kneeled, setting his ear on her outgrown stomach.
"What do you think it'll be this time?" he asked her.
"I believe it's a girl," she told him.
"Only one?" he asked
She nodded "Only one,"
Aoi at this point could already tell if there were more than having carried both twins and triplets. She had also never been wrong at guessing the children's genders, so he believed her completely.
Inosuke picked up Shirako as he told him all about his adventures in the mountains and all Aoi could really do was hear him. She occasionally gave the child a concerned look and sometimes she was impressed.
"Dad are you really a pig?" one of the triplets suddenly asked.
"No, I am mountain king," he answered, picking her up.
"Then why did momma say you were a pig when she was cleaning up your room?" the only boy of the triplets asked.
Aoi blinked and flushed immediately.
"Did she really? Well, she is wrong, I'm a boar," he told the children.
"Same thing," she huffed.
He laughed and picked up the other two triplets, careful to not drop any of them. Daiki and Azuki smiled also hugging him.
Aoi also smiled despite being very tired. She loved them all and cared for each of them deeply. Even if they were sometimes extremely stupid and chaotic like their father. At the end of the day they were also like her in many physical and attitude. All nine-or ten- of them.
"Come on papa! Mommy made your favorite for dinner!" the youngest of the triplets shouted excitedly, hugging his head.
He smiled, turning his head in his wife's direction. He smiled at her and she smiled back he extended the one free arm he had to her. She came close and leaned on his side as the 12 of them entered their messy loving home.
