"Dad, I'll go now!"
On-jo left before his father could talk for the nth time. She looked at Cheong-san who was leaning on the wall and remembered the thing she was supposed to give him.
She spent days looking on electronic shops just to look for recorders and speakers that were loud enough to attract crowds of zombies. After checking different models, she bought 5 Bluetooth speakers that were 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall which were pretty cheap compared to others. Not that the quality matters anyways. As long as the speakers were loud enough, she was fine with it.
On-jo also asked for a recorder that is small enough to fit inside her fist. She was shown some, but those were not enough to be heard in a long-range. She still bought some though, remembering that time when Gwi-nam was weakened by the noises from the drone when they were at the construction site.
And the thing that On-jo will give him was a recorder necklace she found in the last shop she went into. It was a bit expensive, so she only bought two for her and Cheong-san respectively. She recorded a 24mmHz sound on both after finding out from the quarantine camp that it is what affects zombies most.
"I have something to give you," On-jo opened her bag's front pouch to get the recorder necklace.
"What is it?"
"A gift."
Cheong-san had mixed feelings about it. He felt loved and flustered at first, it was a gift from the girl he liked after all. But he also was suspicious that it was some kind of prank since his birthday was months away.
"Why? My birthday won't be coming until the next season."
"Here. Finally," she showed the necklace.
"Is this some kind of prank or something?" he eyed her, "What's the necklace for?"
On-jo went close to him and put her hands close to his neck to clasp the necklace on him. He stood still and not breathing, feeling her breath hit his skin. His heart stopped and didn't beat for seconds, not until she finally moved away.
His heart then thumped triple times faster than a normal heartbeat. He just stared at her the whole time and snapped out of his thoughts to look at the necklace. It was a silver chain necklace with a black pendant that took the shape of a rectangle. In the lower part of it was a small button.
His hand was slapped away before he could even press it.
"Don't! That's for emergency purposes," she warned. She took out a necklace of the same model which was hidden inside her shirt for him to see, "I got us matching ones."
Cheong-san looked down at his feet and tried to get rid of his smile before looking back to her, "Alright."
"And don't tell I-sak. She'll get jealous."
"So she didn't get one?"
On-jo rolled her eyes, "No. Duh! I told you I only bought two for the both of us."
A wider smile curved from his lips, "Okay. The same ritual?" he tried to change the topic.
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
It was at the 4th try when it was decided that On-jo becomes the gopher for the day.
She put on a blank face before turning around, taking the opportunity to escape while he took his time cheering.
"I'm seriously going to kill you," On-jo ran to the elevator before he could catch him.
As soon as she got out, Cheong-san was already there, breathing heavily after running through the stairs.
"Play fair, you punk!"
On-jo showed him the cut she got while preparing for the things she put in her bag, "Look at this. I got hurt while making breakfast."
He only looked at it before putting the sling of his bag on the finger she raised, "Let's go, gopher."
She kicked him in the back but unfortunately missed.

On-jo was deemed late in contrast to Cheong-san who got past the teachers before the time. She kicked his bag to which he returned with a teasing smirk before leaving for class.
Unlike what she did back then, she didn't confess to Su-hyeok. All her feelings for him passed after realizing that she's already in love with Cheong-san.
They were in their English period. Su-hyeok was asked to repeat what Nam-ra said after being caught fooling around with his seatmate.
Hyeon-ju suddenly came unannounced.
She had a pair of bloodshot eyes, pale skin, and the same stench as their science teacher. She told Ms. Park she was locked up by Mr. Lee, and that she was injected by something she didn't know.
Their English teacher immediately asked for students to help her bring Hyeon-ju to the infirmary.
Su-hyeok, I-sak, and On-jo volunteered.
On-jo knew this was when it started, but didn't know who got bitten before she could be taken to the hospital. Hyeon-ju was immediately brought through an ambulance by On-jo's father, who first bandaged her arm that almost got bitten.
It didn't penetrate through her skin, but it did leave a mark on it.

Before she knew it, lunchtime came. I-sak and On-jo talked about random things and lined up to put their tray back.
Cheong-san, who suddenly appeared, placed his tray on top of hers.
"Put mine too, gopher."
Suddenly, screams from students rushing to the cafeteria were heard. They were followed by other students who acted all weird.
They were biting people.
On-jo was about to run away to look for Cheong-san but was hit by other people trying to escape from them.
Before she could react, a zombie was on top of her.
All she could do is wait for Cheong-san to save her.
