“What? No, of course no. Gross, Caden.” So not gross. How did he guess that easily?
“Ah so who is it then?” He asks.
“I’m not telling you!” I say indignantly.
“Why not?”
“Um, because I barely know you!”
Before he can say anything else, Stacey calls us into attention.
“God bless.” I mutter, moving to my spot.
“What was that all about?” Fern asks as we get into position.
“I’ll tell you later.” I assure her.
We march down to the field, for the last time this year! I have to say…it doesn’t feel any different from the other ten million times this week.
“Alright.” Mr. Smith addresses us when we reach the field. “We’re going to run our show and then work on getting on and off the field. Set up the first set of the first song!”
Fern and I look at Catie expectantly.
“What?” she shrugs “It’s Friday, I remember this shit by now!”
We laugh and move to our positions. Even Robby knows right where to go.
After running the first three songs, Mr. Smith starts explaining how we’re going to move off of the field. It’s actually really simple because all I have to do is play follow the leader.
Once everyone is off the field, we go and line up to march onto the field. Before we march on, I am standing next to Logan. Our band does a fun thing called the Wiggolo. The drum majors call “HEY BAND” and we reply “OH YEAH.” Then one of them says “ARE YOU READY” to which we reply “OH YEAH.” And then the senior drum major calls “TO DO THE WIGGOLO!” And everyone goes “OH YEAH, HANDS UP HIGH, FEET DOWN LOW, THAT’S THE WAY WE WIGGOLO. WIGGOL-O WIG WIG-GO-LO.” And then we snap back into attention.
Logan turns around and shakes his butt towards the field, which makes me laugh so hard I can’t do any dances of my own.
After the Wiggolo, we march onto the field and run our whole show, then getting off the field. By that time, it’s already four twenty-five, and it’s time to march back and get ready to leave. Friday is, by far, the most fun day of band camp!
We go back up to our room one more time so we can put on our “uniforms” (long jean shorts and our “show shirts”) and grab our luggage.
My shorts are very tight and I’m going to have some difficulties tucking my shirt in!
We take our luggage down to the waiting bus and go over to the pavilion with everyone else. It seems like just yesterday we were arriving and had no idea what we were doing. Wait… no it doesn’t! This week went by slow as hell!
