The sound of water falling and cascading down the cliffside roared in your ears. Translucent jellyfish bobbed up and down lazily in the air, bubbles floating up and popping at random intervals. The entire place was something straight out of a dream, especially with the blue shrine nestled amongst a bed of pink and purple coral. Large pieces of pink and purple coral to be specific.
Klee giggled and cooed at the scenery, peering over the cliff edge and laughing joyfully. She came away from the cliff and ran around in circles, her arms out like a flying machine.
"This place is super duper pretty! Are there are any fish so I can go fish-blasting?" Klee asked Kaeya, staring up at him with excitement in her eyes.
"Perhaps you can go fish-blasting later. Alright?"
Klee nodded eagerly before zooming away and stopping on top of a platform. It appeared to be part of a ruin from long ago with all the moss covering it. It was broken in various places, the stone cracked and crumbling apart. There was something pretty about seeing such things, about seeing remnants of a lost people. You wondered what happened to them.
Qiqi raced after Klee, hopping up the crumbling stairs. She was agile and nimble, but you still couldn't help but get nervous whenever she hopped onto the next stair. You darted after the children just in case, glad you did when Qiqi slipped and started to fall backwards. You dived towards the child, skinning your elbows on the rough stone. You vaguely heard a startled cry of your name from Kaeya, but Qiqi landed safely in your arms.
Qiqi looked at you with surprise, a rare emotion on her face."Are... you okay?" Qiqi asked, staring at you worriedly.
You nodded with a wince as you helped her and yourself up. Blood dripped down your arms, a few shards of rock sticking into your skin. Dust and dirt stung the wounds as they clung to the small cuts, causing them to ache.
Kaeya pulled you into him, grasping your arms gently as he lightly brushed away the rocks. He frowned heavily as his gloves became stained with your blood. Qiqi waddled over and summoned her Icevein Talisman, her hands grasping your arms as she healed the injuries on your arms.
You looked at the child, startled. She looked up at you and gave you a hug before going back over to Klee.
"Thank you, Qiqi!" you called out after her. She looked back and nodded once before hugging Klee. The two children giggled as they collided, the both of them running off somewhere close by to play.
You looked up at Kaeya who looked at you with soft worry in his eyes before they softened. He sighed once and held you in his arms as your gaze turned towards the horizon.
You watched as the sun slowly set beyond the horizon, turning the waters into brilliant shades of oranges and blues, the light dancing like an exotic dancer upon the waves. The day had been long, with events piling on top of each other.
"Albedo is setting up a temporary camp for tonight. He's alone in his own tent, the girls are sharing and we're getting our own. Unless you want to sleep in the same tent as the children?" Kaeya said, watching the sunset with you.
"I think I'd rather sleep near you. Just in case you get a nightmare."
"How considerate of you."
He wrapped his arms around your body, resting his head on top of your own. His fingers tangled themselves in your hair, brushing through the strands. The sky burst into oranges and reds, the clouds turning pinks and purples as the sun began to vanish behind the horizon. Slowly the sky darkened to shade of blue like Kaeya's hair. Stars started to glimmer and twinkle, winking down at the both of you. It was almost like a scene straight out of a book.
