"Mitch and Scott sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage!" Kirstie teased. I've liked Scott for, like, ever. Not that he noticed...

"Kirst! He'll tell me at the last day, like they all do. The fifth grade is when people date." I said quetly. She raised an eybrow and smiled at something behind me.

"Or... maybe he'll tell you now?" Kirstie said as she got up and sprinted to another table.

"Wha-" Scott took Kirstie's spot and smiled at me. I looked down in hopes he didn't see me blushing.

"Hi Mitchie. What's up?" I tilted my head upwards and smiled at the nickname he gave me. He gave it to me before "Mitch" was my nickname.

"Not much. Just eager to be out of elementry school is all." He bit his lip and nodded.

"Can you keep a secret, Mitch?" I nodded and move to sit next to him.

"I really like someone, and I'm planning on telling them on the last day. Do you think they'll like me back?" My heart shattered. He likes someone else. Great.

"Only time can tell. I'm not a fortune teller." I said quickly, trying to not sound angry.

"I guess. I'm just nervous." He breathed out. I grabbed his hand and let my eyes search his face.

"You'll be fine. If they don't like you, then, screw them. You can always come to me if it goes wrong." I said in a soft tone.

"Okay. Thanks Mitch." He jumped up and walked away.

--The last day--

"Uh... Mitch? Can you meet me behind the school at recess?" I looked up from the math paper I was working on and nodded.

"Sure. Meet you there." I worked on random things until it was time for recess. As soon as I had the chance, I snuck behind the school and waited.

"Mitch! Thank God you're already here. Okay... um." I looked up from my spot I had taken on the ground. He was blushing and out of breath, probably from running.

"Yeah. I've been here for like, ten minutes. What's up?" He slumped next to me and sat criss-crossed.

"I... wanted to ask you... um... do you like anyone?" I tilted my to the side.

"U-um... yeah. Why?" He looked down and cleared his throat.

"Who? I mean, if you want to tell me." I nodded, saying that I would, and let out the breath I didn't know I was holding.

"You." His head shot-up.

"Really?"

"Mhm. I have for a while. You just never noticed. Kirstie thought you liked her for a while." He started smiling like an idiot and moved to his knees, pulling me into a hug.

"Oh my God. This is the most releaved I've been in months." I savored the feeling and backed away.

"So... what does this make us?" He smiled.

"Best friends, and boyfriends."

--First day of fifth grade--

"Mitch! C'mere!" I walked to the back of the lobby where Scott called me too.

"Yes?" He took my face in his hands and pressed his lips to mine. After a moment, I kissed back. He backed away after five seconds.

"W-what was that?" He smiled, and walked away.

"Mitch and Scott sittin' in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage!"
