AN: Let's try the thing of writing.
This is actually going to get published... unlike the others. Oops.
Okay bye.
Have fun.
Brown.
The color of my stripe is and was brown.
The way that the world worked was simple; when you turned twelve, you got a stripe on your arm that was your soul mates hair color.
I know, it's weird. But it happened. Now, here's the really weird thing.
I lived in a community where the hair color of brown was very rare. Until Mitch Grassi came along.
I could've sworn his hair was black but that isn't important. He had brown hair. It really seemed to good to be true.
The only thing that would've made it really amazing would've been if he actually noticed me when I did him.
He didn't know I existed for years. Mostly because I didn't like to talk. I was shy... anxiety ridden.
The day I did talk though... I don't know what I would've done without it.
It was awkward, and so were we. I was sixteen, and he was fifteen, and as he put it it was strange to see a sixteen year old approach him.
"Um... excuse me?" I asked, trying to grab his attention. He slammed his locker shut, as we all needed to for them to close, and turned around.
He even looked shocked, which made me fear that the conversation wouldn't go well, "Uh, hi. Do I know you?"
I stuttered, trying to find words that would make a sentence, "U-um... no, I... I just found you intriguing in a way." Great one.
"Oh... well, hi. I'm Mitch. Nice to meet you... and you are?" He recovered quickly, his happy appearance resurfacing quickly.
"I uh... I'm Scott. Nice to meet you too." I replied with a smile.
He smiled back.
Years passed again, us becoming closer and closer. I learned that his stripe was blonde only two months after we became close enough, and it was a sigh of relief on my part. That meant the soul mate might be me.
"Scoooooott." Mitch whined from the other side of his room, grabbing my attention from my lap.
"What?"
"Who do you think your soul mate is gonna be?"
My heart stopped. I couldn't tell him I thought it was him. What would he think? "I um... I don't know." I lied.
"Scotty, come on. You have to have an idea. I do." He retorted with an eye roll.
My heart cracked. He has an idea, "Oh... who?"
He scoffed. "Alex. That kid in algebra? He's cute, and has blonde hair. Plus he's gay. It's basically the perfect description."
I almost threw up. Alex was nice, had nothing against the guy. He was smart and was nice to have in algebra when my brain was stupid, but I wanted Mitch. "Oh."
He looked concerned at my short answer. "You okay? You look sick."
"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied again, even though I hated lying.
He hummed and let silence go off, breaking it seconds later. "Who do you think yours is? C'mon, I won't make fun of you."
I rolled my eyes, "As if you won't."
"Um, I won't. Now spill, Scotland. Just a name."
I sighed, "Fine, you really wanna know?"
He threw his hands in the air at the obviously sarcastic question, "Duh! Spiiiiill."
"I think it's this boy named Mitch. You know him I think. He's pretty cool, and the only male with brown hair that I know."
His face was priceless, but churned my already uneasy stomach more. It took at least three minutes before he spoke. "What? Scott... I don't..."
"Um... I gotta go. Bye." And I ran out of his house.
We didn't talk for two weeks. I was mostly at fault though, being that I avoided him every chance I got. Until Mrs. Munroe saved our relationship entirely.
"Alrightie. Everyone is going to be doing a duo with the person next to them." She announced. The person next to me was Mitch, which I was happy and nervous about. I didn't want us to be awkward around each other.
He came to my desk instead of me moving. I was to nervous to. He cleared his throat, grabbing my attention. I looked up at him, staring nervously at his face.
I'm happy he spoke first, because I wouldn't have been able to. "Hi Scott." Was all he said. Simple, but it was enough to turn my stomach as I thought of a response that wouldn't give away how nervous I was.
"Hey." I muttered loudly enough for him to hear. I felt like saying more would've helped, but there wasn't much else to say.
A small silence passed over us, giving me the other option of reading the instructions for the project. Then he talked. "I'm sorry about what happened a few weeks back."
I didn't know why he was apologizing, because it seemed more than unnecessary. He did nothing wrong. I was the one that couldn't keep their thoughts and feelings straight.
"Why would you be sorry?" I asked, purposely making it seem like a statement. It seemed like doing that made you seem confident, and that's exactly what I wasn't.
He sighed, "Because I acted like I didn't already know you thought it was me."
That shocked me, I'll be honest. I didn't know how to respond, other than a strangled "what?" and to wait for him to answer.
"It was the way you always stared at me while I was doing easy things. Like, reading or singing. You looked at me like I was summoning angels."
I laughed lightly, "Well, when you sing you basically are."
He smiled at my sentence, laughing in the same breathy way as I did. "You're such a dork, I swear."
We both laughed way to much at that.
The weeks after that were easy. We got an A on that project, which I wasn't surprised by. Mitch sang lead.
We hung out more... way more than we used to even. We got closer, and he ended up knowing most of my secrets. The secrets that nobody but your absolute best friend could know.
I guess that's why he's my platonic soulmate.
Yes, platonic. Like, best friend that you'd marry.
I ended up marrying a man named Andrew, and believe it or not, he actually got Alex.
I honestly thought I did want him, but I guess it's because I trusted him. But that's okay.
I still have him more than Alex does in a way.
Double AN: Loooooooooong
I hope this didn't suck, bc I wanted to try something other than the usual
Y'know, the one where Scott gets Mitch, yada yada
