"What kind of Pokémon are you...?" the trainer asked as she pulled out her Pokédex.

*Buzz* *Bling* "Ralts, the feeling Pokémon. Ralts is the pre-evolved form of Kirlia. It can use the horns on its head to read human emotions. Ralts rarely show themselves to humans but may occasionally approach when it senses positive or happy feelings," the Pokédex explained.

"Hey, that's pretty cool, so you can read my emotions?" the trainer asked.

Matthew put a hand on one of his horns, and, sure enough, he was able to read her emotions. She was calm.

"I should probably introduce myself if we're going to be traveling together. My name is Naomi. I'm sorry for being scared of you earlier, I didn't know you were so peaceful. I hope we can be friends."

Matthew's horns reacted to her kindness. To show acceptance, Matthew hugged her leg.

"Aww, you're so cute," Naomi complimented.

"Well, this is dehumanizing... I'm not just some pet. Then again, it isn't really her fault for not knowing that I'm actually human," Matthew thought.

"It's always been a dream of mine to go on a journey with Pokémon of my own ever since I was little, and I was always made fun of for it... but they'll regret it when I get stronger and collect all the gym badges," Naomi explained.

"Everyone always judges me because all of the other girls in my town want to be boring things like a barber, or a clothes designer, or a shop owner. They ask, why can't I be like them? Why do I have to be a special snowflake?"

"I don't want to be like them. I want to prove to my family, no, to the whole town that I'm not weak. I will get all eight gym badges and prove to the town how strong and independent I am."

Matthew's horns reacted to Naomi's frustration; he could tell she was upset. He used Teleport to get onto Naomi's shoulder, and he began massaging her back in an attempt to calm her nerves. His efforts paid off because after a few minutes, Naomi's breaths became slow and soft, and her eyes were barely open, signaling she was relaxed. Naomi eventually fell asleep, and Matthew's horns reacted, letting him know she was calm.

Later that night:

If one had to guess how long Naomi had been asleep, they would probably say about 5 hours. She definitely needed the rest because she must have been exhausted judging by how long she slept for. Matthew, on the other hand, was wide awake, pondering why or how he could have ended up here. Then, he had a thought.

"Wait a second... does this mean I can talk to other Pokémon?"

Curious, Matthew quietly rummaged through Naomi's bag and found a pokéball with a small black "C" on it.

"This must be Chespin's pokéball."

He pressed the circular button in the center of the pokéball, and dropped it on the ground. Chespin emerged from it, but with a more relaxed posture this time.

"Hey, I know you! Wait, how do I know you...? Oh yeah, I remember now! You're the Pokémon that I lost to earlier... haha... well, if you're still here, that means she caught you, so I guess that makes us friends!" Chespin said excitedly.

"Hey... um... would you believe me if I told you I was actually a human?" asked Matthew.

"Huh...? But you're very clearly a Pokémon," Chespin responded.

"I know, it's sounds crazy. But I really am a human. I don't know what happened, I just woke up like this," Matthew added.

"Hmm... that is strange. I want to believe you, but it just sounds so bizarre. I've never heard about a human turning into a Pokémon," Chespin said.

"Yeah, I don't know what's going on either. That's why I came looking for a human who might be able to help. I figured that I could find some answers if I come with Naomi, and if it's fun, then that's a bonus," Matthew explained.

"I guess I'll just have to take your word for it, seeing as there's no way to prove or disprove it, at least not right now anyway," Chespin said.

"Thanks for trusting me," Matthew replied.

"That's what friends are for, right?" Chespin added.
