Chapter Thirty-Eight:
Followed throughKirari Jefferson
Jacksonville, Florida"I know you got a lot to deal with but our practise exams are coming up and I don't want you to miss this opportunity." Kirari sighed as she watched Reese drive the car, hitting the indicator and taking a right.
Reese didn't even glance at her while he drove. His mind was heavy right now with thoughts of murder, plots and guns. He had no time for practise exams, they were just out of his reach.
"Reese, after you kill Blanco, what you gonna do?" Kirari asked, raising her eyebrows at him in a curious manner.
"I know you have a lot on your mind right now but the future isn't going to wait for you." Kirari began, "At least turn up for the exams and try, that's all I ask."
"Don't throw away your future just because of Blanco. Leave your options open." She felt the car stop and glanced out to the window to see her house, her mama pulled the curtain to see before waving to show that she was unlocking the door of the house.
Reese ran his hands over his face with a deep sigh. He had too much going on with him and it felt as if the world was at his shoulders. At this age, he was supposed to only worry about his studies and some wack shit like Prom but he didn't have that privilege.
Undoing his seatbelt, Reese turned to face Kirari. He grabbed both of her much smaller hands before speaking, "I wanna go to College, 'Rari."
"I don't wanna be stuck over 'ere forever, man. But I don't see no choice. What I'm planning with Blanco might get me killed or in jail. Studying just ain't an option now." Reese tried to sound nonchalant but it was clear that this affected him greatly.
"How 'bout this then?" Kirari asked with a sad smile, "Imma call you every night at 10 and quiz you for an hour. That's it."
Reese nodded his head before pulling her into a tight hug, drinking in her vanilla scent. He loved this girl so much that it hurt him. Deep down inside, Reese knew that Kirari deserved better but he didn't have it in him to let her go
Instead, he'd become the man she deserved.
"It's a deal. As long as you give me that 'lil boy inna few years." Reese smirked which made Kirari chuckle while she rolled her eyes.
"Boy bye." She said giggling as she stepped out of the car.
"I love you, Kirari." Reese shouted out the window while she walked towards the house.
"I love you too, Ta'vian." She shouted back, knowing that if things went wrong, this would be the last time she'd ever heat him say that to her.

Kirari had her books spread out on the bench near the basketball court in her neighbourhood. She wanted to focus on Calculus but her mind kept wondering to Pearl.
Looking back on their friendship, she couldn't help but realise that they were both in the wrong. Neither of them were acting out of malicious intent but they both lost their only friend because of that.
Kirari had warned Pearl to stay away from Reese because of the trauma she'd experienced. Having the same boy she liked be the reason why her father was locked up, it fucked her up and she'd only warned Pearl because of that reason.
However, she could see why Pearl had reacted the way she did. Kirari had broken girl code. Even though Reese had made it very clear that he'd stopped being interested in Pearl, that still wasn't a pass for Kirari.
In the end, they were both in the wrong. Kirari went back on her word. Pearl went after a guy while she was in a relationship.
They were both imperfect but man did this miss each other.
Kirari grabbed her phone and pressed Pearl's contact before placing it on her ear. She waited quietly while the phone rang and rang, before she finally answered.
"Hey, girl." Pearl said softly.
"Hey...I've missed you." Kirari replied.
"Me too. You wanna meet at our spot?" She asked while there was rustling in the back.
"I'm already here." Kirari smiled before hearing Pearl laugh.

Thirty minutes went by before Pearl finally arrived. Kirari shut all her books before standing up to pull her friend into a hug. They silently enjoyed each other's embrace before pulling away.
Pearl sat down and Kirari did too.
After staring at Kirari for a few minutes, Pearl sighed before speaking, "You were right. Blanco was a son of a bitch."
Kirari's head dropped, she hadn't wanted to be right. A part of her hoped that Blanco would just love Pearl but she'd known it wasn't possible.
"I'm sorry, girl." Kirari mumbled before grabbing Pearl's hands and giving them a squeeze.
"He gon' come after me though and I'm scared." Pearl confessed as tears ran down her eyes.
She'd whacked him on the head with a gun and he was a Kingpin. Blanco was definitely coming after her and there was no denying it. When he would come for her was the only thing that was uncertain.
"Don't be." Kirari stated simply. She wasn't going to tell Pearl anything yet but she still wanted to reassure her.
Pearl glanced at Kirari's stern eyes before nodding her head slowly. She understood just enough for her to get herself in order.
"Blanco has gotten away with way too many sins; He gon' get his karma, one way or another."
"I wish I could do sum but I know that there's people out here who he's done worse to who'd love to get him." Pearl shrugged, wiping the tears off her face.
"He got better opps than two high school girls." Kirari chuckled spinsters.
She'd seen it before with her own eyes and heard about it in the streets; When Reese wanted to be heartless, he could be.
Blanco had created a monster and now it was coming back to kill him.
