"Okay, Vega, I'll go get an owl for you from the Emporium while you go and get your uniform from Madam Malkin's," Dora said as she looked down at the dark-haired girl who was looking up at the older girl blankly.
"Auntie Dromeda told us not to split up, Dora," Vega said pointedly as the eleven-year-old crossed her arms over her chest. Dora rubbed the back of her bright bubble-gum pink head, looking around.
"Well, it's going to take mum some time with your books," Tonks replied knowingly. "Let's just hurry so we can go to Fortescue's," She gave Vega a sly look. "Don't you want to have your favourite mint chocolate?"
"You make sense..." Vega trailed off, thoughtful. Dora nodded in triumph and moved to walk off toward the Eeylops Owl Emporium. Vega turned to look at the Madam Malkin's in the distance.
The clobber stone street down the Diagon Alley was bustling with crowds of students and their family members. Vega had hoped that today wouldn't be such a busy day but it was clear her wishes had not been heard that day.
Vega didn't like to interact unnecessarily with people, and thus she tried her very best to not collide with anyone. But still, Vega found herself muttering endless apologies as she pushed herself through the horde of wizards and witches.
Madam Malkin, a squat and ever-smiling witch in mauve, was the first to greet Vega when she entered the store. Vega had been in that place countless times before with Dora for her uniform, until she stopped growing by the age of 16.
Dora had not inherited her mother's tall height, but she had her mother's wide, kind eyes and brown hair. Vega, according to the little that was mentioned of Bellatrix, was a carbon-copy of the woman. Except her eyes – the shape of Vega's eyes was wide like Andromeda's and blue like Narcissa's.
Talking about the sole children of Andromeda and Bellatrix, Vega wondered what was up with the sole child of Narcissa. She had only seen him once or twice from afar, and she knew he resembled his mother greatly like his cousins did theirs. She wondered how he was now.
But Vega didn't have to wonder about it for long.
"Finally, your turn to get your Hogwarts' uniform?" Madam Malkin greeted Vega before the younger girl could even open her mouth to speak. Vega was grateful and just nodded. "Come along – we've got two other young men being fitted up just now,"
"Yes," Vega muttered as she followed the woman to the back of the shop. She was sure that Madam Malkin had not heard her, but that didn't really matter right now.
Because one of the two young men being fitted up was her cousin Draco Malfoy. Vega crinkled her nose slightly when she recognised his pale, pointed face as he stood on a footstool while a second witch pinned up his long black robes.
Instinctually, Vega went for a footstool that faced away from them so she didn't have to interact Draco. Andromeda has advised her against crossing paths with the Malfoy Family, including both Narcissa and Draco. Vega had no problem doing that. She knew what kind of people they were.
"My father's next door buying my books," Draco was speaking to the boy standing next to him, also getting his robes measured. Vega noted Draco still had his bored, drawling voice. "And mother's up the street looking at wands,"
Vega glanced over her shoulder, looking toward them through her thick hair. She hadn't expected the whole Malfoy family to be roaming around Diagon Alley that day and hoped that Andromeda wouldn't cross paths with Lucius Malfoy.
"Then, I'm going to drag them off to look at racing brooms," Draco continued. Vega looked ahead as Madam Malkin began to take her measurements. "I don't see why first years can't have their own. I think I'll bully father into getting me one and I'll smuggle it in somehow,"
