Dearest Vega,
I apologise for not replying sooner but I hope that you would forgive me. I have been visiting Mrs. Reed for the last few days, I'm sure you remember her? Ted's great aunt who always teased you for your messy hair? Dora and Ted have been with us.
Due to her health concerns and her children being out of the country until further notice, we will be staying at hers for the next few days in Ireland, which would include Christmas day.
Unfortunately, that also means that we wouldn't be home to celebrate Christmas. Would you like to come by to Mrs. Reed or would you like to spend the Christmas holidays at Hogwarts? I know Dora wanted to spend her first Christmas at the castle.
I also know that you struggle to spend too much time around Muggles due to personal magical fluctuations. We would have no trouble picking you up from the station in case you still want to come by.
Do let me know as soon as possible, and take care of yourself. We're all very proud of you and your contribution to Gryffindor's first win of the Quidditch season. Try to stay safe while playing and be vigilant against Bludgers.
Have a wonderful day, and we all love you.
P.S. Both Ted and Dora wish to watch you play at the Quidditch games.
P.P.S. Don't worry about all the pets, Mr and Mrs. Gill have agreed to care for them, and Ted would drop by every morning and afternoon when he comes to work.
Love, Andromeda
Vega reread the letter once more time before picking up the quill to write a response to Andromeda about how she had decided to just stay back at Hogwarts for the Christmas holidays this time around. She was frankly looking forward to it, especially after she knew that the alternative was Mrs. Reed.
Mrs. Reed was an elderly Muggle relative of Ted, who very often reprimanded Vega about her messy hair and would always sit her down to try and straighten them to no avail. Andromeda's longer hair were wavier than curlier like Vega so she rarely had such a comment.
It also didn't help that one of Mrs. Reed's neighbours had a daughter who always had lice in her hair and got them into Vega's hair, something that the latter disliked immensely. Plus, Vega didn't want to see the moment Mrs. Reed had enough of Dora's vibrant hair.
But most importantly, Vega couldn't control her magic for such a long time in a Muggle household.
Primary school had initially been difficult for her for this very reason until she learned to control herself for twelve hours at the very least but staying at someone's house for so long? Vega didn't want to risk that at all.
Besides, Vega had found reason to stay back at Hogwarts. Or maybe more than one reason.
And one of them had to be the sheer beauty of the castle as it sat amongst the ash-white mountains. It had happened one morning in mid-December that Hogwarts woke to find itself covered in several feet of snow. Even the Great Lake had frozen itself solid.
The few owls that managed to battle their way through the stormy sky to deliver post had to be nursed back to health by Hagrid before they could fly off again. Vega had dropped by at his hut to provide him with of the herbal concoctions she had learnt while caring for her own animals.
No one could wait for the holidays to start. Especially Vega, who wanted to spend time with her friends and not worry about studies. It was influenced by how cosy the common room was.
