This time, three boys entered the compartment, and Vega recognised boy in the middle within seconds. It was Draco Malfoy, and he was being hailed along with two lackeys (both of whom were double the size of Malfoy).
"Is it true?" Malfoy said. "They're saying all down the train that both Harry Potter and Vega Lestrange are in this compartment. So, it is you, is it?"
"Yes," Harry replied when Vega made no response. In fact, her friendly expression had long-washed away at the arrival of this person. He wondered what was up with them.
"Oh, this is Crabbe and this is Goyle," Malfoy said carelessly when he noticed where Harry was looking. "And my name's Malfoy, Draco Malfoy,"
Vega wanted to leave the compartment herself or have Malfoy leave instead. She had not expected herself to run into him so quickly into their journey. Ron, however, gave a slight cough, which might have been hiding a snigger. Draco Malfoy looked at him.
"Think my name's funny, do you?" Malfoy said. "No need to ask who you are. My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford," He turned to look at Vega and Harry. "You'll soon find out some wizarding families are much better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there,"
Malfoy held out his hand to shake Harry's. Vega glanced at Harry, not wanting him to even think of taking it. But fortunately, Harry didn't take it.
"I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks," Harry said coolly. Draco Malfoy didn't go red, but a pink tinge appeared in his pale cheeks.
"I'd be careful if I were you, Potter," Malfoy said slowly. "Unless you're a bit politer you'll go the same way as your parents. They didn't know what was good for them, either. And you, Vega, I thought you would learn quickly enough. You hang around with riffraff like the Weasleys and that Hagrid, and it'll rub off on you,"
Despite being seemingly the least violent of the three, Vega was the first to move to her feet. And it wasn't entirely done in her conscious. Harry and Ron stood up as well, with Ron bursting out, "Say that again," He was as red as his hair.
"Oh, you're going to fight us, are you?" Malfoy sneered.
"Unless you get out now," Harry said, rather bravely. But something told Vega that it didn't really seem so. Besides, she would rather not fight two huge boulders in form of Crabbe and Goyle.
"But we don't feel like leaving, do we, boys?" Malfoy said. Vega fingers twitched heavily. "We've eaten all our food and you still seem to have some,"
Goyle reached toward the Chocolate Frogs next to Ron – Ron leapt forward, but before he'd so much as touched Goyle, Goyle let out a horrible yell. Scabbers the rat was hanging off his finger, sharp little teeth sunk deep into Goyle's knuckle – Crabbe and Malfoy backed away as Goyle swung Scabbers round and round, howling.
Vega drew out her wand and it struggled in her hands, flicking around before everyone was swung back. Scabbers was released from Goyle's finger and hit the window while Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle were roughly pushed out of the compartment, making the door slam shut.
"What was that?" Harry asked as he and Ron turned to look at Vega, whose fingers were twitching erratically on her wand. Her grey eyes looked lighter than normal as well.
But there was no time for Vega to respond because a second later, the door slid open once more and this time, it was Hermione Granger who returned to their compartment. Vega hurriedly slipped her wand into her jacket pocket, shaking her head to clear it somehow of everything that was going through it.
