November 13,6:00A.M. Sharp.

"Wake up! Wake up! Let's go newbies!" Some random dude came in screaming.

Little did he know we were already up. All that time waking up at o'dark thirty finally payed off.

"It's about time." I said while getting up off the floor where the three of us had just been playing around.

"Wha... you're already..." He had the most confused look on his face. It made me chuckle a bit. He snapped himself out of it quickly after that. "It's time for your first day newbies. Today-"

"Is that going to be he only thing you call us till, what? 'Our first successful mission'?" I said in a very annoyed tone.

He sighed and rubbed his eyes. "Fine. What's your guys' names?"

"Hailey"

"Hunter"

"Hazel"

"And this is Henry." I pointed at the bottom bunk right under mine. "But he's obliviously not starting training for a while."

"Right, ok well today you'll be taking a placement test." Random dude said with a less annoyed voice. "Follow me."

And we were off. Down the fire escape-like stairs. Onto the ground floor. And intoooooo...

The shooting range

Random dude -who's name is Charlie- showed us how to hold the guns, the safety, how to aim, how much kick to expect, the three rules of gun control(1. Never aim at anything unless you intend to shoot it. 2. Always treat a gun like it's loaded. 3. Be certain of your target, your line of fire, and what lies beyond your target.) and all the basics.

He then stood behind a bulletproof glass wall at the back of the room and told us to shoot.

We didn't do very good.

(If you're wondering if they shot each other they had there own little bulletproof glass barriers between them)

I got one bullet in the paper man thing.

Soooo... not scoring very good on the placement test.

Technically I could have used my telekinesis to 'nudge' the bullet in the right way but I decided not to.

Hunter actually did better then me and Hazel. Which was surprising considering he had the arms of a toothpick and the brain of a snail.

Charlie told us to put the guns down and then he came in. He took the magazines out of the pistols and brought the targets back in with a little joystick thing on the wall.

Then he motioned for us to follow him out and across the facility into a room labeled...

Sparring room

(Spar-ing, as in fighting, not spare-ing like my friend thought it was... I need smarter friends...)

"Woah..." Hunter said with wide eyes and a smile that showed how amazed he was.

"Woah is right." Hazel said looking around the room in awe.

Well, technically it wasn't really a room it was actually the open space that was 'left over' from after all the other rooms were built. Which I always thought was dumb since how good at fighting pretty much determined if you would survive on a real mission.

You could be the best sniper but if you couldn't fight and something went wrong, you died.

That was the sad truth about this life. It was full of loss and trauma and death...

Well now that we got the depressing part out of the way.

Charlie had us watch some other (older) people fight and...

Well... let's just I was terrified. Like, really scared.

Good news was that Charlie was letting us fight each other, bad news, I didn't have a partner. Hunter was with Hazel and Ella was with Gabby. So I would have to be paired with someone from here. And who do you think coincidently walked in at that exact moment?

Blake. Of course it was him. With my luck I'm not even surprised.

"Blake come here for a sec." Charlie yelled over to him while waving his hand.

"Yeah what's up Charlie?" Blake asked asked oblivious to what was about to happen.

"Would you mind sparing with..." His voice trailed off for a second obviously forgetting my name yet again.

"Hailey. For the last time my name is Hailey." I said a little annoyed he still hadn't gotten it.

Blake's face broke out in a huge grin, obviously excited that he was about to beat me in a fight.

Even to this day sometimes I just want to punch that cocky little grin off his face.

"Get ready to lose newbie."

"That's never going to NOT be annoying."

"Get used to it newbie." He said with a wink.

I rolled my eyes at him.

We stepped onto the mat, faced each other and Charlie yelled fight.

Before I could even think Blake rushes over and swept my legs making me fall flat on my back.

"Don't make her too mad Blake or she might burn the place down!" I heard someone yell and then everyone started laughing.

Blake turned around to face them and said,"Don't worry guys she couldn't even think about using her powers before I'd have her on the mat again." Another uproar of laughter.

I took the chance to kick the back of his knees making his legs buckle and fall to the ground. I stood up, spun and kicked him in the face with the back of my foot.

The room fell silent.

I had no idea what just happened. I had never been in a fight nor seen anyone fighting for long enough to even remotely know what to do. I just... did it.

No one made a sound. The tension being so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Then out of nowhere Hunter (who had been watching with everyone else) started cheering and clapping. Soon everyone started cheering with him.

I looked down at Blake who now had a bloody nose. I helped him up feeling a little bad about embarrassing him like that. I'd get over it though.

He looked at me while holding his nose and smiled.

"Welcome to the club, rookie."

"Oh so it's rookie now huh?"

"You just beat the bosses son with no training at all. I think you earned a promotion, Hailey." Charlie said patting me on the back."

I smiled up at him. Then my eyes widened at Hunter who was running at me at full speed. He then proceeded to hug me and squeezing to the point that I could barley breathe.
