Chapter 12: Homecoming Part 1

3rd Person POV

Stefan called Klaus on his phone. It was ringing for a while until Klaus finally picked up. The hybrid immediately started talking.

"Portland is fantastic, once you get over all the whiney music and healthy looking people, it is literally a breeding ground for werewolves," Klaus told Stefan as he walked through the woods.

"Your father's dead," Stefan stated emotionlessly, interrupting Klaus. It was quiet for a few seconds as Klaus processed what Stefan just said.

"What did you say for me?" Klaus asked.

"Oh, my mistake. Not your actual father, and not dead. Mikael. Daggered. What do you want me to do with the body?" Stefan further explained, looking down on Mikael's daggered body.

"Well, first I want you to explain to me exactly what happened," Klaus ordered.

One hour earlier

Stefan walked into the main room of the Salvatore Boarding house, followed by Elena, who was, in turn, followed by Damon.

"Alright. Let's say Mikael followed Elena in here. He tried to grab her, so he could use her as bait," Stefan proposed, speaking towards his brother and ex-girlfriend.

"And you, what, vervained him?" Elena sensibly questioned as the trio stopped in the middle of the room.

"No, we vervained him. This guy is an Original. We have to make it realistic," Damon pointed out, as the three worked together to create a cover story for what happened.

"Okay, fine. We vervained him, and in the process discovered that he had a dagger," Stefan continued the story.

"Which he planned to use on Rebekah. But instead--" Elena followed on as the plan formulated between them all.

"We drove it through his heart," Stefan finished, looking directly at Elena while doing so.

"And what happens when he asks to see Mikael's body?" Elena asked, trying to make sure that the plan had no details missing, so that nothing could possibly go wrong. That was one of the reasons everyone agreed to not tell Ryan about the plan. Stefan had told everyone how close Ryan had become to Klaus during the summer, and everyone worried that Ryan would try to save Klaus, and they couldn't let that happen.

"Good point," Damon butted in, looking towards his youngest brother while he talked, "You my brother have been compelled to do what Klaus says. So the idea is to lure him back here and kill him... last thing we need is you getting tripped up and tongue-tied." Elena and Damon were both looking at Stefan expectantly.

"Well, don't look at me. I am just in charge of getting him back here," Stefan claimed, not listening to his brother's and ex-girlfriend's worries.

"Klaus is smart," Elena pointed out, "If we tell him that Mikael is dead, he'll want proof."

"Then I shall be dead," Mikael stated, walking into the room with an object in his hand, covered by a cloth. He put the object on a side table as the Salvatore brothers and Gilbert girl looked over to him, not hearing him ever enter the room in the first place. Elena and Stefan walked over to, as Damon put it, Papa Original. 

"What if he wants to see you in person?" Elena asked, finally in front of the Original. He had unwrapped the object, revealing it to be a dagger and a small pot.

"Well, that means our plan is working," Mikael dismissed the doppelgänger, "Klaus will absolutely want to see my body. You lure him here, and I will kill him."
