December 24th, 12:00 p.m.

The door to the Matthews' apartment was open when Shawn mounted the landing to their floor. Through the entrance, he could see a warm, familial scene where Cory, Allan, Auggie and Josh were crowded on the couch. The adults were catching up while Josh was passing cookies to his nephew. Topanga was in the kitchen with Amy as they discussed her dishes. Riley and a friend of hers were sitting on the picnic bench with their backs to the table as they faced the living room, but they were also deep in conversation. Taking the opportunity to enter unannounced, he strode through the open door and closed it quietly behind him.

The motion caught the attention of both teen girls and they looked up curiously. He quickly put a finger to his lips, indicating that he wanted to sneak up on his best friend. Shawn took a seat next to Auggie, still unnoticed as the quartet was more interested in the cookies that Josh had brought over. Smirking a bit as he anticipated the other man's reaction, he finally greeted the group by saying, "gee, Cor. I thought you'd be more excited to see me."

The curly-haired man looked up from the platter with a loud gasp. As soon as the realization set in, he cheered, "yaaay!" as he extended his arms to pull Shawn into a hug, unintentionally squishing his son in the process. Behind his best friend's back, he pointed accusingly at Maya. "I told you he was real!"

Auggie managed to wiggle free with a relieved, "I'm lucky I'm alive!"

As he went over to his mother for comfort, the two girls watched the reunion with interest. "So, that's us, huh?"

"So I've been told," Riley replied.

"Hey, Shawn. Am I cooler than you yet?" Josh asked as he stood to greet the older man.

"Not yet, but I'm getting nervous," he said, giving the teen a hug as well.

Topanga walked over to greet him, and he welcomed her with, "hey, Mrs. Cory."

Smiling brightly at him, she echoed, "hey, Mr. Cory."

"You two," Cory said, placing a hand on each of their shoulders. "How great is this? My favorite person in the whole world and my wife."

The brunette turned to where her daughter and Maya sat, grumbling, "my whole life."

Alan stood to greet his son's best friend, offering him a hug too. "Hey, Shawn. How's it going?"

"I keep moving, Mr. Matthews," the dark-haired man responded.

His answer caused Cory and Topanga to exchange a glance, one where the former's gaze insisted, 'we have to tell him!' while his wife's eyes narrowed in a reply that meant 'don't you dare!'

Amy moved away from the stove to welcome him with open arms. "We're glad you're here. Are you hungry?"

"Yeah."

"Good luck with that."

"I'm right here," Topanga pointed out, irritation coloring her tone. Amy gave her a faux-apologetic look.

Riley and her friend were the last ones to greet him. The brunette lifted an uncertain hand as she said, "hi, Uncle Shawn."

"Yeah. . . hey, kids," was all he offered them before he went over to talk to Cory.
