"Ladies and gentlemen, please pack all your bags and prepare to leave this ship as we are arriving at Amer Island in 30 minutes. Enjoy your remaining time on this ship!" boomed a deep voice through the overhead speakers. An audible groan escaped everybody's lips. I was also one of them as I was enjoying myself far too much.
So far, I sticked with Akira and found out a lot about her. For instance, she is Half-japanese and half-white. So the blue eyes that I thought was contact lens was actually her natural colour. Oops...
"Come on Jess! I got to go get my bags!! I dumped them off near the concierge. Where did you put yours?" she asked.
"Oh, mine... Oh no!!! I left them in my chaffeur's car!!! Man, Dan was supposed to help me!!! Ugh... What should I do..."I trailed off, amazed at my lying skills.
"Oh, that's a pity. It's ok though. The school actually has everything there. Like they have boutiques for you to buy clothes there and stuff. There's a mall opposite Amer High specially for us only. You can shop there," said Akira.
I couldn't help but feel impressed. I felt more confident in my choice of staying in Amer High.

I help lugged Akira's luggage out. It was quite heavy. Luckily, a guard was there to help us and so after a while, we walked to the central hall as instructed by the student counsel members. As I entered, I couldn't help but marvel at my surroundings. There was some beautiful stained glass as the windows. Bluebirds, summer, cherry blossoms... It was beautiful. The central hall was at the middle of the whole school. There was a glass ceiling so the sunlight shone through. There were palm trees lining the two sides of the hall. There were beautiful classic lamps hanging on the wall. There were air conditioning vents by the side. Overall, it was beautiful. There were rows and rows of beautiful crimson-clothed chairs. At the very front was a carpeted stage with many cool lights around it. There were red curtains draping around it. It was very Broadway style, discluding the glass ceiling and the palm trees by the side."Ugh, these palm trees are so cheap. Like, we petitioned for cherry blossoms but they stuck with palm trees. I want it Japan style, not looking like the Bahamas!!!" came a high-pitched voice. It was a senior. She was beautiful.
"That is the illegitimate child of one of the actors in the sitcom Friends," whispered Akira. I looked at her in awe. Akira started pointing out all the other kids and telling me about their family background.
"How about you, Akira? Surely you also have a grand story to tell?" I asked, wagging my eyebrows around.
"Well, unfortunately, I am not a normal kid in this school. My parents aren't actually that rich. My mom is a judge while my dad is a mall designer," mumbled Akira, her face having red streaks across them.
My face also grew hot. If Akira's parents work as those... And she was already ostracized... Then what about me??? My mind raced, immediately trying to think of a story.
"So, what is yours then? Much more grander than mine, I know," mumbled Akira.
"Well..." I quickly thought of some of the books I read, "my mom is a French model whilst my dad owns a business that designs... Stained glass."
" Ahhh.... Interesting...." muttered Akira. She was about to say something when a tall blonde guy came on the stage. He had some wrinkles and creases on his face, brown eyes but he looked athletic. Below the suit he was wearing, you could see the muscles bulging. Immediately, everybody kept quiet and looked at him. Their eyes all shone with admiration. He tapped the microphone to test the sound then when it was working, he took the microphone.
"Good morning, Amer High! Have you been enjoying your summer holidays?" he grinned. Some people groaned and some people cheered. Everybody started discussing with each other excitedly.
"My summer holiday was amazing!!! You never believed it, I spent time with my wacky cousin Tarrin and we actually hijacked an ice-cream truck together! Though we got caught and sent to the cops and our parents had to cough up some hush money, you know," smiled Akira. I laughed.
The guy on the stage tapped his microphone again and everybody fell silent.
"As you know, I am Mr. Anderson, your headmaster. I would like to say welcome back to everybody and hello freshmen and newcomers. Next week, lessons start. So this week, try and enjoy as much as you can!!! I would like to keep this speech as short as possible. Please meet your form teachers after this. For freshmen, your form teacher is Miss Rinn. You will be assigned your dormitories there. Each dormitory has two students sharing it. Of course, boys and girls are separate."
The students sighed. I laughed along. I nervously went to where Miss Rinn was as the rest were also going to her. Akira and I looked into each other's eyes and held hands. That moment, I think I know what she was thinking too: I hope we are dorm mates.
