It's Just Some Bonding Time, Not A Date... Maybe.

"Argh...." groaned Akira loudly. I stepped out of the shower. Apparently, Mia wasn't pleased when I walked back into the dorm with my soaked clothes and lied on the sofa. Next thing you know, she asked some workers over at IKEA to remove the sofa and she went over to IKEA to look for a new one. I quickly wore a lace blouse with
black shorts and ran out.

Akira was lying on her bed and clutching her eye. She was wearing an eyepatch on her left eye.

"Ummmm... Are you ok, Akira?" I inquired.

"No!!! This eyepatch looks so ugly!!!!" she screamed.

"Well, I can help you design it, if that's what you want," I commented.

"That could work... I will give my spare one to you. Thank you so much!!! Alex, at times like these, is utterly hopeless."

I giggled. Then I remembered our dinner date and my face grew hot. I immediately turned away.

"Speaking of Alex, congrats on winning that food competition. Did you see him today?" she asked
I sat on my bed and faced Akira.

"You have known Alex for many years, right?" I asked cautiously.

"Yeah. I knew him since I was 5. Why?" she replied.

"Well... How's his family background?" I asked.

"Well, let's just say he is not much richer than me. Since none of our family members are related to royalty like almost everybody here, we are kind of like outcasts. Alex's parents are both prosecutors. Why?" she asked.

"Well," I picked my words carefully, "just now we kind of met each other. And he kind of asked me out on a dinner date..."

Akira screamed and jumped on me.

"That's so amazing!!! The day has finally come, where my two best friends finally get together. Oh, I can imagine the wedding chapel, the baby shower..."
She squealed.

"Hey, Kira!!! It's not really a date. Don't tell Alex I told you this, ok?" I begged.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. When is the date? Tonight?!" she asked.

"Yeah. The problem is... He never mentioned the time..."

"Oh, that's easy!!! He usually eats dinner at 6 so he will probably pick you up at 5:30. And it is currently 4:46pm. Good luck!!!" she grinned.

I looked at the clock and internally panicked. I leaped into my bathroom. I massaged Argan oil into my hair and combed it. I opened my closet and searched desperately for something to wear.

Finally, I picked a loose singlet that flowed out with a tight chevron skirt in case the date turned out to be casual. Wait... Maybe it would be a classy date.... I took out this fancy strapped heels that I was pretty sure would kill my feet. Oh well. Wait... If it was somewhere classy, it was bound to get cold... I grabbed a denim jacket. I grabbed a simple black leather satchel and headed out of the closet.

"So... How do I look? Do I look a bit too... Do I look like I spent too much time on it?" I asked Akira nervously. Akira turned around and gasped at me.

"Darling, you look gorgeous!!! Oh that Alex is one lucky guy..." she muttered.

"Akira, it's just... A dinner to bond... Since I am your close friend, he is naturally trying to get friendly with me," I said, hoping in my heart that what I said wasn't really how Alex thought.

Akira shook her head and chuckled.

Minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I checked the keypad beside the door. It was Alex outside. He seemed to be wearing casual- a button down with his sleeves rolled up, jeans and Vans. He still looked good.

"Akiracanyouhelpopenthedoorpleasethankyou," I yelled, running to my closet to change my shoes to a pair of grey Converse.

When I came out, Alex was standing right in front of my wardrobe, smiling.

"Argh!!!" I screamed, taking a step back and tripping over my heels that I chose previously. My elbow hit the marble counter and I landed on my butt. I blushed and quickly got up to my two feet.

Great, getting humiliated in front of my crush and my crush's best friend/my roommate.

Alex, after seeing me fall, was worried but after seeing I was fine, smirked. My face grew bright red.

"Let's... Just go," I said, hurrying out, "bye, Akira."

"So..." I asked, as Alex closed the dorm door and ran to my side," where exactly are we going?"

"You... Will find out soon," he flashed me a smile and ran down the stairs.

"HEEEYYY!!! Wait up!" I laughed, tearing down the stairs after him. Luckily I wasn't wearing my heels.

I arrived at the door the same time as him. I proudly smiled. He opened the door and we hopped into a buggy available.

"The main block, please," Alex spoke into an intercom at the front seat.

"Journey to the main block. The time consumed will be 2 minutes," came a Siri-like female voice from the intercom. Immediately, the buggy automatically reversed from its waiting zone and drove out.

"This is blimming cool!" I exclaimed, looking at the campus whizzing past us. Just then, Alex put his arm around my shoulders and squeezed it. I took a quick look at him and looked away, my heart hammering like I just ran a marathon.

"Why, not used to it, my jelly?" he grinned.

I cringed. Next time, I must control the level of alcohol consumed. Fortunately, we reached the main block. Some students were hanging around in the lobby, chasing each other around or as in Mia's case, she was flirting with the receptionist. She saw me and raised her eyebrows at me but I ignored her. No need for her to rain on my parade. As we exited the grand oak door, I saw a sleek Bentley waiting for us there.

"Rented a car, hope you like a Bentley. Not so rich to buy a car here and rarely use it so might as well rent!" he chuckled. Alex looked at the beautiful girl standing beside him and she looked like a million dollars. He hoped she didn't mind if he rented. She looked pretty down to earth so maybe she won't look down upon him. She grinned and showed him a thumbs up sign. He usually didn't believe in this stuff, but now he was affirmative that he had tumbled head over heels for her. And it was a love at first sight.

**************************************

I climbed into the Bentley's passenger seat, looking around. Oh my gosh, everything looked so perfect inside. I actually wouldn't mind if I had to spend the whole date here with Alex.

IT'S NOT A DATE!!! IT'S JUST A BONDING TIME BETWEEN SOME NEW FRIENDS.

I took a few deep breaths. Oh holy, if my heart becomes this state everytime I see him, I would be die of heart attack in a matter of days.

Alex entered the car and turned on the engine. The Bentley purred gently. He drove out of the campus.

"So, can I ask you again, where exactly are we going?" I inquired.

"Oh, Jess, if only you have a bit more patience. I was gonna tell you when we arrived there, but since you look so curious and adorable, I will tell you where.

We are going to a murder mystery dinner."

Yay!!! New chapter uploaded!!! I didn't update for more than a week because when I came back from the holidays, everything was hectic. School projects left right center. And I have a piano exam next Friday. Wish me luck!!!

To compensate, I tried to make this chapter a bit longer than usual. Picture by the side is of the outfit Jessica wore at first, before she changed her shoes.
