"I can't believe the magazine's coming out tomorrow" I said excitedly, almost dropping the pan with the pancakes as I carried it over to the kitchen table. Pete was about to stand up and help me when I caught it. "Careful" he grinned when I pushed a pancake onto his plate. I stuck my tongue out at him and put the pan back, sitting next to him and starting to eat my pretzel. "Are you sure you don't want a pancake?" "I'd throw up" I said so he wouldn't ask me again because after one bite, it had been straight to the bathroom for me. So Pete had gone down to a bakery and gotten me a pretzel and some rolls. Sweet things just weren't my kind of thing right now.
I took a sip of the tea next to me and looked up at him. "It's only been a week, it seems so unreal" I said. He smiled and shrugged. "I can tell you're worrying and you shouldn't worry" he said and reached out for my hand on the table, giving it a comforting squeeze for just a second. Hemingway came running into the kitchen, waving his tail and looking up at me so I took a bit of ham from the table and dropped it to the floor for him. "You should really teach him like tricks" I said. Pete shook his head. "He doesn't care." That made me laugh and I was glad for some distraction from the fact that the magazine was coming out tomorrow. "When's Bronx coming?" I asked. "Ashlee should've already brought him earlier so I hope soon" Pete replied. I yawned and stretched before finishing the pretzel and making myself another cup of tea.
The door bell rang and I grabbed my cup, crossing the hallway and opening the door. "Hi, Charlie" Ashlee said and Bronx hugged her quickly, walking in straight away. "Well, bye then" she said sarcastically but actually smiled. "He hasn't seen Pete in a while" I tried to explain and she shrugged. "Yeah, well. How are you doing? Is everything okay with the baby?" she asked. Maybe she wasn't so bad after all. I nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine, I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow actually. Which is also when the magazine comes out." "Yeah, Pete told me about that" she said. "Congrats. I'll try to get one." "Thanks." We were making small talk but we were talking and not bitching.
"Oh, hey, Pete" she said and I turned around, Pete had appeared behind me. He wrapped his arms around me from behind and rested his chin on my shoulder. "Are you letting Bronx stay the whole weekend?" he asked Ashlee. She nodded slowly. "Are you two back together?" she asked in confusion. Pete chuckled. "Yeah." I smiled too. "Since New York." Ashlee nodded slowly. "Right. I gotta go" she said and she was clearly judging us again but at least she wasn't letting it out this time.
We returned into the kitchen and I made another two pancakes for Bronx because I was not hungry anymore anyway. Pete got up and put the dishes into the sink, kissing me on the lips for just a second. "You're the best" he said. I smiled happily. "Are you two back in love?" Bronx asked, looking at us over his shoulder. Pete sat back down and nodded. "Yes, we are" he replied. Bronx smiled. "Well, I thought you were good together the whole time and I never understood why you weren't here anymore anyway." I turned and took a deep breath. "I'm back now." "Good."
"Can I eat in front of the TV?" Bronx asked and Pete nodded. The little boy took the plate and made his way to the living room. Pete looked at me. "I was wondering if you maybe wanted to consider ... moving back in here? You know, I'm still not the biggest fan of your neighborhood." I thought about it for a moment but then shook my head. "I think we should take it slow" I replied. Pete nodded. "Yeah, I agree but this isn't even in regard of our relationship but simply because I'd feel like you're a lot safer here." "I'm here a lot of the time anyway, since we've come back from New York last week I've slept at my own apartment once so I don't think we need to really make it official." Pete sighed, obviously not wanting to discuss it any further. "Alright" he shrugged.
Later in the day, me and two girls from the magazine, Ally and Fran, looked at a few office spaces. We couldn't afford it yet but we wanted to check some out because soon, we would need some if the magazine would do well and in that case, we wanted to prepared. After, we went downtown for lunch outside to enjoy the sun.
"I'm actually so jealous that you're dating Pete Wentz" Fran said after the dessert had come and we started eating. I took a sip of my water. "Haven't you got a boyfriend?" I asked. "No, I just got out of a shit relationship." Ally nodded. "She told me about it, that guy was a dick." I raised my eyebrows. "Really?" Fran nodded too. "Yeah but let's not get into detail about that." "What about you, Ally?" I asked. She shook her head. Suddenly, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. It was Sofia. I picked it up. "Yeah?" "Charlie, can you come over?" she asked but her voice was high and I heard her sob, she was crying. "Are you okay?" I asked, instantly alarmed. "Yeah, I just ... I need to talk to you, please." "Um, yeah, I'll be right there" I said quickly and got up, fumbling for my wallet and putting the money down on the table. "I have to go, one of my friends just called me, crying. I hope that's okay." Ally nodded. "Yeah, of course, I hope everything's okay." "Yeah, thanks, me too" I said and left the restaurant, waving for a cab.
