Jungkook looked around the one-person dorm of his university for the arts. Despite going to a university in New York—one of the biggest art capitals—there existed a sense of dread within him.
"Bam, I'm nervous," the upcoming college freshman (first year) told the doberman. Jungkook chewed on his bottom lip. He had a vision for his dorm room, that was for sure, but leaving everything behind—his family, his friends—was hard.
The teen was all alone in a foreign place. He felt like he stuck out like a sore thumb, not fitting in with the culture of New York City. It was a lot different from his little town in Busan. Some people were friendly, but most of them were busy. The city was fast-paced. It really fit the nickname of "The City that Never Sleeps." Jungkook was hoping he could get the hang of it. But most of all, he wished he could have a friend.
Back in Busan, Jungkook had his little gang of friends that he knew throughout middle and high school. However, they went a different route than he, preferring to stay in South Korea, or at least, around, to pursue their further studies if they wished to do so. Some of them started working in their family businesses right away. Some people went to Seoul.
But Jungkook took the biggest leap, going all the way to the United States, getting a student visa and dealing with micro-aggressions alone. Thankfully, with Ellis Island close by and the history of the area, Jungkook wasn't too much of a minority. However, it was a big culture shock to go from a mostly monocultural country to one so full of multiculturalism. He went from a majority and being "normal," to being a minority and receiving looks every now and then about how Jungkook acted or even carried himself.
With a drawn out exhale, Jungkook adjusted the black bucket hat on his head of brown, fluffy hair. His petal-pink lips formed a pout as he looked at the bare walls of the dorm room. The cogs of his art-oriented brain were already churning, contemplating where to move furniture, what the color scheme should be, and where he would work on his art. He wanted to make this dorm comfortable since it was where he'd be spending his time in between work and school. All by himself...
Alone...
As the dog sniffed around the room, the human-puppy sniffed around as well—an endearing quality he had all his life. He was thankful that there was space for things he bought to be able to cook in the dorm and he was even more thankful he had a suite-style rather than a hall-style bathroom. Having a bathroom to himself was comfortable and made him feel more grown up.
Jungkook started to move the furniture, thankful that his bed was lofted to its highest setting. With all of Jungkook's art supplies, he would need all of the space he could get. So he got to work.
I hope I can make this place a home.
