5. The Woods

Katniss P.O.V.

The next day, I ride the train to the wall, I get off and tell the dauntless guards who I am. They let me through and I run to the woods where I used to hunt and collapse on the dirt to sob my heart out. It's not fair, I wasn't even over the fact that I would probably never see him again, now he's dead and I didn't even get to say good bye. I left Peeta at the home by himself but I told him beforehand where he could find me. Wait, Peeta was at the funeral, that means someone he knew was in erudite. He was from erudite, of course. His parents and one of his brothers were killed, I'm an idiot, I should be with him. 

I get up and compose myself,  just as I leave the woods Peeta runs into me. I don't back away but hug him instead. "I should have been there for you..." I tell him. He shakes his head and walks up to a tree and kicks it so hard, even Gale would be proud. "It's not your fault... I saw my brother yesterday, he chose amity 6 years ago, haven't seen him since, we spoke at the funeral. He's married... with twins, both boys. He named them after me and one of my brothers. It's a big thing though, it's weird to think... that... once upon a time, I had two little brothers and an older one. Now my younger brothers are dead, my older brother named his children after me and one of my brothers." he kicks the tree again and clenches his fists. "SAY SOMETHING... please, say something." He begs me before kicking the tree again. "I'm sorry, I wasn't there for you. I'm going through the same thing but less... people..." I trail off as he crouches on the dirt floor and picks a dandelion.

He turns and gives it to me, "A dandelion... we're going to be alright." He tells me. The flower has become a symbol of love and hope for us. After I got a bad ranking in the second stage, Peeta brought me the yellow flowers that used to bloom in his back yard. When Peeta got knocked unconscious in a bad fight after initiation. I brought him a small vase of dandelions on his bedside in the infirmary. They were our flower, we kiss. And I feel hope. 

Tris P.O.V.

I passed initiation today. I came first and everyone is congratulating me. Tomorrow I pick a job, I want to be a trainer like Tobias. We kissed and all that (btw, initiation happens just like in the book except for the bits I added and thg people), I think I love him but I haven't told anyone yet. We talked about how we're gonna tell Katniss, we don't know how she'll respond. Everyone else will be happy, I'm sure of it, but Katniss. We decided not to make a big deal about it like kiss and hold hands in front of her.

We also decided where going to do it at lunch and that's where I'm going now. This is either going to be a huge mistake or slightly successful. I reach the open doors and find our table, I sit next to Tobias even though there was a spot next to Chris. She give me a questioning look but shrugs it off. He kisses me on the cheek, I eat my lunch then stand up to leave. Tobias, who was finished and waiting for me, stands up too and we walk away together, hand in hand. Once we get out the doors we hear Katniss exclaim, "Where did that come from!" Our eyes go wide and we pick up the pace. 

Tobias leads us to his apartment and we sit on the couch, cuddling. Somebody knocks on the door and I go into the kitchen to get a glass of water while he answers the door. "Hi, is Tris in here? I've checked everywhere else and she's nowhere to be found." It's Katniss, crap. I place the glass down on the counter, Tobias must hear because he let's her in. She walks straight into the kitchen and refills my glass then drinks from it. She doesn't take her eyes off me the whole time. "When... how... what... why." she says and grabs my arm and twists it so that I can't move or I'll break it. Tobias steps forward but I shake my head, I'm not going to resist. 

She pulls me out of the room and down the hallway, up a flight of stairs and into her apartment. She sits me on the couch and a stream of people come into the room. Chris, Will, Peeta, Finch a.k.a. foxface, Uri, Marlene and Shauna. Zeke walks in with a tied Tobias with a burlap sack over his head. Zeke pushes him on the couch and pulls off the sack. "Was that really necessary?" Uri asks, Zeke nods his head. "Ok, spill the tea, dude." Peeta says, Tobias inches closer to me and puts his arm around my shoulders and I lean into him. "Well, to do that we'd have to get tea, do you have any tea?" He asks, I can tell he's playing it cool so I chime in. "I prefer coffee." I tell them. Four nods, "It's true, she does, me too actually. Or dauntless cake." he suggests. "We could go get cake, lot's of cake."

Tobias P.O.V.

We could go get cake, be a lot more fun than this. I give Tris a peck on the cheek. "Let's go get cake." I tell her and she nods. "Sounds good," She replies. Those who would normally stop us are to stunned by the simple gesture that they don't follow, the others just don't care. "Well that didn't go as planned." Tris says, we get cake at the food hall then we wander, go to the training room to throw knives and shoot plastic bullets at each over from opposite sides of the room, then we go to dinner.

We are the last to get there so we have to sit in the last spots left, then we notice that they've purposely sat so that there are only two spots left, and their on opposite ends of the table, no way. I steer Tris over to the next table and we get food. I sit so that I can see the dirty looks coming from Katniss, not her. We eat then go to the dorms and get her stuff, she's moving into my apartment tonight. We go up to my apartment and crash, I let her take my bed and I sleep on the couch.

I wake up in the middle of the night to hear Tris sobbing, I quickly cross over to the door and knock before opening it. She looks up at me, then looks away. I can tell she is trying to stop crying. I walk over and crouch next to the bed, she looks into my eyes. I take her face in my hands, my thumbs wipe away her tears. "Can I sit?" I ask and she nods so I sit next to her. We lay down after a while and go to sleep.
