Inky dragged me into the cafe. Maybe telling him my secret was a mistake. He probably hated me now. Was he going to humiliate me in public?

No, I don't think he's like that. But secrets like this really change how people look at you. People already looked at me weird because of my wing. I had jumped off a roof, trying to fly before I was ready, and it had never quite healed right. I couldn't fly, so I was a freak among fairies.

I felt their pity and it was sickening. I don't feel like I deserved it. But I could be worse. I could be normal. With glamour I look normal, but any magic creature can see through it.

Humans find me overly attractive. This was a small problem, as I couldn't be with any of them. The town was full of normals. And vampires. Stupid vampires bite everyone. They have issues. They all think they're superior. But during the day they're like zombies. It's actually kinda funny.

Inky looked around.

"Why are we even here? Are you mad at me?"

I really hope he wasn't going to embaress me. I thought I could trust him. He's my only brother. And Dad says family is for trusting. But that was before Mom left.

He grabbed my arm.

"Over there."

He pointed towards a normal sitting at a small table. When I didn't move he dragged me over there. The normal boy already sitting there was pretty cute. I pinched myself. Thinking like that brought me here in the first place.

He looked up when we walked over. Inky pulled out a chair and sat down. They both stared at me.

"I told you he wouldn't want to come." The normal said. He put his head on the table. He seemed almost sad.

"That's why I didn't tell him." Inky looked at me. I was still standing. I felt a bit superior, standing over them like that.

"Sit down Bro." I took a step back.

"What's happening?" I was a wee bit upset. I had no idea what was happening, and they were talking about me like I wasn't there.

"Please don't make a scene." The normal murmered.

"Knight Spencer Arthur Fae sit down."

I sat down. It's always bad when your older brother uses your full name. Especially when threatening with a human name is one step away from using my full seven word fairy name in public, and I don't need people to know how to control me.

"Okay then, Trip" (That's me) "meet Gale." He gestured to the normal.

"That's great. Bye Gale, I'm leaving because you two are weirding me out." As I started to walk out of the cafe, I froze. Everything did. The air was strong with magic and I wondered how long Inky could hold it. It was a freeze spell. The magic's complicated. Basically the building and the inhabitants are frozen in time, but anyone who comes into the building will freeze too and it's just complicated. Anyone who sees the building, will actually only somehow see what will happen when time is unfrozen.

In other words, my brother used magic to break the laws of physics, space-time and human comprehension.

It's complicated.

But complicated pretty much describes magic. Along with rules and tradition. Which actually makes magic kind off uncool.

Magic is actually kinda lame. I can't do anything without the energy used to do it being taken from me. I'm like a battery that recharges itself. Plus the whole magic is a secret stuff sucks. Plus wings are like paper, so breaking them is permanent.
