In 1800 A.D. the Witch settled in impassable forest, just off the coast of the ocean. She had just come from the other world. Her world was ending. The court of the ancients refused to admit it. She left them behind.
She left the people of the old world a portal, for those who would leave the old ways to live. Many came. Slowly, the forest cleared. Wars were fought and won and the old world was lost. The new world developed itself around them.
People moved in. The Vampires whispered to each other. The newcomers were bitten. Vampires had always had a need for blood. If you cannot imagine why think of why people get hooked on drugs. It makes them feel alive.
People didn't like this. They discovered that some of them were invisible to vampires supersenses. They fought back.
Skip forward a few hundred years. The Vampires had taken over the town. They thought they were in charge. The Witch wanted them gone. She found her opportunity in a grieving young fairy boy. His brother had been killed for sport by a group of vampires.
She offered vengence. He asked what would it cost him. She asked for his wings. He agreed immediatly. It took her a second to realize why. But the deal was done.
A few minutes later the fairy was wingless, the brother avenged, and the witch the victor. Fairy wings in one hand, and dust that used to be vampires in the other.
