A/N: some language in this chapter and some mentions of infertility issues
~~~~~~~
She had never really thought about it before. Never felt it before. But she did know that it was love. She had liked other guys and even other women, but no one had ever made her feel the way that Bucky makes her feel.If asked to describe the way love felt, would she be able to do the feeling justice? Stacy Ellen Payton wouldn't be able to, but that's because Stacy Ellen Payton isn't real. She isn't experiencing these emotions as Stacy. She's experiencing them as Anastasia. Anastasia would describe love as exciting but also terrifying, because any new thing always is. She would describe it as the best thing she had ever felt. It was like she could lose everything and still be okay as long as she had him. Because when he is with her she has everything that she needs. Bucky was her best friend and the love of her life.
She hoped that this mission lasts forever, because the longer it lasted, the longer she could be with him. But things weren't looking great. Alina had come to her with more news. There had been predictions of another war, a big one. She had said it would start in the next few years. That she needed to complete the mission before the war ended or they wouldn't be able to create The Winter Soldier. Everything was up to her.
It has only been four months since her birthday, four months since her and Bucky said 'I love you' to each other. They have had a lot of fights. They were usually about something stupid, whether they were going out or staying in, where they would eat, whose place they were staying at that night, they have never been more than that. The couple had gotten into another fight, it was different this time.
Bucky had started asking where they were going to be in the next few years. James and Stacy had talked about it before, but they never really took the topic seriously. They would exaggerate, say things like they would be king of the world or live on a cloud. This time Bucky was serious, more serious than Stacy had ever seen him.
"Do we really have to talk about this, Buck?" Stacy asked annoyed with the situation.
"Yes, Stacy, we do!" Bucky said raising his voice. "We've been together almost a year and we haven't once seriously talked about our plans for the future! Why?"
"Because I don't know if we can have a fucking future together, James," she finally admitted.
"What is that supposed to mean?" He asked her, confused but still angry.
"I can't have kids, Buck. Hell, even if there is a chance of me conceiving a child, it would be dangerous for me and the baby."
"Why not, did something happen?" He asked concerned for her.
"No, nothing happened to cause this," lie. "It's just the way things ended up working out for me, I guess."
Bucky's expression softened. He knew Stacy wanted kids. Sure he wanted them too, but it was really important to her. He pulled her into a hug and held her tight, comforting her.
"We'll figure it out, Doll. There's always adoption if we decide to go that way," he told her softly. "How long have you known?"
"Umm.. about three or four years,"she said before continuing to cry.
Bucky walked the two of them to her room and lied in her bed together, silent, just keeping each other company.
After a while Bucky had finally said something, "I still want to have a life with you, even if we don't have any kids."
Stacy had heard him, but she didn't say anything to him. She responded by hugging him tighter, falling asleep in his arms, and dreaming about their future together.
