Scared Me

A/N: Hi, all! I've missed you. I've had a lot to do lately but I wanted to make sure to make time to update this week because writing for you all makes me happy!

This was a request by the lovely @Anime-simp-Jae! "Maybe the reader gets really sick while she and Tom are out running errands together and passes out. Then, Tom takes her to the hospital and when she gets out, Tom smothers her with gifts and things to show her how much he really needs her, and how he realized it when she got sick."

TOM'S POV:

Anemia. The condition of having a lower number of red blood cells or quantity of hemoglobin than is normal.

I knew Y/N had it. She knew she had it. It was never really a pressing issue. Sometimes she got lightheaded, but it was nothing we couldn't take care of. I'd just find her somewhere to sit, get her something to drink, and we'd chill there until she felt better. And even those instances were slim to none.

Unbeknowst to me, however, Y/N had run out of her iron supplements recently and not thought to get more right away. After all, Anemia really didn't affect her life all that much anyway, right?

Wrong.

We were at Target...the two-story one on Geary... (A/N: Oh, yes! Where are my authorly manners? We're set in San Francisco for this one, by the way) for a quick fix in groceries until we could get to our regular store later in the week. We were making our way to the cereal aisle when Y/N suddenly grabbed my arm, her fingernails digging into my biceps with such intensity, I thought she must've seen a ghost.

"What is it, love?" I asked, looking over. Y/N didn't look good at all. She dropped her handbasket to the ground and began breathing so rapidly she began to sweat. Her eyes looked dim and absent, yet scared, and she was pale.

"D-dizzy," she whispered in response. She began to lean precariously to the side. I dropped my basket and tried to help her to the floor. Her strength quickly failed her as she went unconscious and her head hit the floor hard despite my attempt to catch it.

"Shit," I muttered. I abandoned our groceries where they lay on the floor and scooped her up to go and look for help.

TIME SKIP: brought to you by Peter Parker's multiple stolen backpacks.

I hadn't realized how terrified I could be of losing someone, silly as it sounds. She only fainted, right? Well, you know how the imagination can wander, stirring up nonexistent scenarios that keep you up at night and muddling reality to the point of unrecognisability.

When the doctors cleared Y/N, she was still a little groggy (as expected). But she was awake and concussion-free, thank goodness. When we returned to the flat, I buried her in blankets, brought her tea and biscuits and all sorts of snacks. I think I went to eight different stores within the span of three hours that day, simply buying Y/N small unnecessary gifts.

Ten stuffed animals and three pairs of earrings later, Y/N looked at me with one of her signature eyebrow slants. "Thomas Stanley Holland, what on earth is all this for?"  She struggled to move under the weight of six blankets and all of her stuffed animals.

"I just...wanted to make sure you were all taken care of, that's all," I responded sheepishly, scratching my neck.

"Baby, I love you to death, but I don't need all this stuff! There's something going on here, mister."

"It's just...when you hit your head so hard I got really worried you got seriously hurt! You know all those people who get skull fractures and don't notice and wake up dead!" I began to ramble stupidly. "I guess all I really wanted was for you to know how much I need you. You scared me, Y/N."

"Aw, Tom! Don't worry. I know you need me. For god's sake, you can't even figure out the dishwasher by yourself!" she teased. "But I don't need a million stuffed animals to show me how much you love me. You're the best boyfriend in the entire world. You take care of me better than anyone ever has and that's love enough right there."

I smiled, satisfied.

A/N: Ew, this one was SO BAD. I'm so sorry! But honestly I didn't know where to start! I just based it off an anemic episode I had once since it felt like a common enough thing. Hope this was fluffy enough! I'll get back in the swing here soon, I swear.
