𝓘t was supposed to be just a normal day.
Karissa and Jamie were late to class while everyone else was already in their seats; they were finally going to learn about Belgium 1931.
Of course, that's when Lucas' old friend from Texas, Zay, had appeared.
Then shit started to hit the ceiling.
The two girls finally came walking in after missing Zay's entrance and his accidental secret spilling.
"Why are you two always late?" Cory questioned while pointing at Karissa and Jamie. They simply exchanged glances before simultaneously answering, "It's first period."
"We got you a donut, though," Karissa remarked as Jamie handed him the bag that contained a glazed donut.
While Cory snatched it away excitedly, a boy behind Lucas stood up with a big grin and his arms open.
"There she is!"
"Zay," Karissa stated, completely surprised and confused, while going up and hugging him. "What are you doing here?"

When Karissa and Lucas were in Texas, they went to the store because she wanted to make his friends her famous cupcakes.
While there waltzing down an isle, Lucas spotted his old friend, Zay. Lucas wanted to get away as soon as possible. After his expulsion, the two lost contact. And although Karissa knew about his past, he didn't want to get Zay involved in anything and possibly make things sound worse than it was. He didn't want Karissa thinking of her as Texas Lucas.
"Um, hey, we should go—"
"Lucas? Is that you?"
Lucas' eyes shut as his head fell. During which, Karissa smiled at the boy.
"Hey, Zay," Lucas greeted reluctantly.
"I haven't seen you in forever. How have you— Oh, and who is this cute thing?" Zay questioned complimentary once his eyes landed on Karissa.
"I'm Karissa," she introduced while holding her hand out. Zay gladly shook it and informed her of his name as well, "My name's Zay."

The two really did hit it off afterward and Zay grew a major liking to her and even Lucas had to admit, it went much better than he thought and it made him realized how much he missed his old best friend.
