𝓞ut of all days for Jamie to be out sick, it just had to be today. The day Lucas called Maya a short stack of pancakes and Karissa defended her. While Riley remained silent, thinking what Lucas said was true, Karissa immediately punched his arm and told him, "Shut up— don't say that."

Those five simple words got Maya comparing Karissa's definition of friendship to Riley's.

The following day, Karissa sat in between Lucas and Farkle on top of the divider, waiting for first period to begin. Jamie had caught a cold from her mother and was too ill to come in. She was missing her best friend terribly.

The trio's talking and laughing was cut short when they heard Riley and Maya coming down the hall, fighting.

"You stood up for Lucas and not me!" Maya expressed while they stopped in front of Cory's class.

"I'm not standing up for him," Riley argued. Maya threw her arms up. "You didn't disagree with him."

"Well, when you really think about it, he wasn't wrong."

     "Who cares?!"

Karissa's head tilted back while she quietly groaned. She didn't want to deal with this today.

"Oh, right and wrong don't matter now?"

"The only thing that matters is you and me. When have I ever not stood up for you?"

     "When I'm wrong!"

"You're always wrong!" Maya contended, making Riley gasp in offense. "Or you're always right, who cares? I don't listen, I just stick up for you automatically."

"Ooh, chick fight!" Zay announced upon seeing the pair having a fight. "Chick fight right here, ladies and gentlemen." He raised his finger up. "One dollar to see the shocker by the lockers." Zay joined the three on the divider. "Brought to you by Zay Babineaux Enterprises."

Lucas got up, getting closer to the two. "I'm not gonna be the cause of this," he intervened.

"Too late, Huckleberry." Zay chuckled. "Huckleberry," he repeated Maya.

"You know why it happened, Maya? All you do is call me names. I finally struck back once."

With lifted brows, Maya whipped around to come face to face with Lucas. "This has nothing to do with you, who I will deal with later." All the boys backed up. "Yee," they spoke in unison.

"This happened because she stuck up for you."

"I didn't stick up for him."

     "You didn't disagree with him."
