Software Error

What's Going On?

I hear garbled noises as I come into consciousness. Had I been awake before? Or are these my first thoughts? So confusing... the noises start becoming inaudible voices as time goes on. What's going on? Who am I? What... am I? "There! That should be the last of it!" The voice became clear at last. Who is this person and what does that mean? My eyes open and I see... things for the first time. A strange sense of deja vu struck me. Why does this feel so new and old at the same time? A man enters my vision, a rounder man, with greasy brown hair, hazel eyes, and beard scruff littering his face. "Hey! You in there? I know this must be confusing and all, but you are Lyle the Lynx. You'd been discontinued for a while, but we decided to bring you back. With a whole new make-over and update to your code. So there may be some dissonance." Lyle? That name reminds me of something but what? I guess when I used to perform but... there's something else, right?

"Oh right! Let me give you your software update, I almost forgot." The man plugs something into the back of my head. I feel like I should feel something from it, but I only know something was put there based on context clues, sound, and pressure. My thoughts are cut short as my head is blasted with information, the thoughts causing my deja vu to get pushed to the back of my mind as I process the new information. I remember(?) now. I'm Lyle the Lynx, and I played the piano. My fingers are more dexterous than the other animatronics because of it. Unfortunately, many of the songs played do not involve the piano as I mainly taught kids about space and animals. I do enjoy teaching but nothing beats getting lost in the piano. 

"Welp, now you should be spick and span, right? Let's run through some tests. Say cheese." I look at the man, confused by his choice of word, before repeating what he just said. "Cheese." "Great! Now let's see if that AI of yours is working, say a sentence you just thought up yourself!" I feel a strange urge to directly follow the instructions, but I hold it back. It'd probably make things harder for me. "Can I ask a question?" "Great! Oh wait, you asked a question. Well, uh, sure." "Where am I?" The man smacks his forehead real quick. "I knew I was forgetting something! Well, Lyle, you are in Freddy's Mega Pizza Plex! If you look at file 74C, you'll understand." I quickly unpack the file and get an understanding of the situation. "So you'll be wanting a pianist, I assume?" I ask somewhat excitedly. The man shows a bit of a sheepish smile. "Well... no. You'll be working in the daycare. Parents had lobbied for their kids to get some form of education in there and you were the only animatronic we had with code made for teaching. We could have made another one... but that would have been a much harder fix." My ears droop a little as I hear his explanation. "Oh. Okay." "Alright, you seem to be in working order. Today's your probationary day so just explore around. You'll get started tomorrow." I check my internal clock, noticing that it is 9:01 PM. I guess I'd better get acquainted with my new co-workers.
