Memories On Hold

As Freddy and I start walking to the other animatronics' rooms, I decide to put my thoughts on hold. It'd be pretty rude after all. Thinking about other things in the middle of a conversation. The walk to Chica's room is a bit awkward, too short for small talk, but long enough for silence to be noticeable. Oh well, we're here and that's all that matters. Freddy takes the initiative to knock on Chica's door, and a familiar scene plays out.

"Hello?" I hear a girly robot voice as the door opens, revealing a white chicken with pink accentuations. Glamrock Chica. Her design seems so familiar yet so foreign to me. But I push those thoughts out of my mind. "Hello, Chica. I'm Lyle. I'll be working with you from tomorrow onward." "Sweet! A new member of the band would be so fun!" I pause, a bit embarrassed to explain in detail. Luckily Freddy has my back. "Sorry Chica, but Lyle will not be playing in the band with us. They will be teaching kids in the daycare due to parent concerns." "Aw... well, we can still play some songs together during breaks right?" I get excited at her idea. "Oh! Yes! That sounds like it'd be fun!" "Great! It was nice meeting you Lyle!" "Yeah, nice to meet you too." Me and Freddy wave Chica goodbye.

As we head to Monty's room next. "Sounds like you're excited to play," Freddy says during the walk. "I don't think there's anything that can beat getting lost in a song. At least in my book." "You might be right. But I think the best part of the job is putting on a smile." I think a little bit about what he's saying. "I... hm. Well, my thoughts are subject to change on the matter. I probably just miss playing an instrument." We stop in front of Mongomery's room and knock. Similar to Freddy I can hear some thuds on the ground, but these feel less controlled and more spirited. "What is it?" Monty asks, seemingly upset at something. In my files, I see he has anger issues. Maybe he was in the middle of a tantrum. Or he's just looking to fight. "Well, I'm Lyle, I knocked so we could introduce ourselves." "Lyle? That's a stupid name. You aren't going to be a part of the band are you?" I try not to let his words get to me, which mostly succeeds. But I do find myself a least a little peeved. "For your information, no. I won't be a part of the band unless an emergency arises. I will be working in the daycare mostly." "Good. I bet you'd cramp our style." Freddy steps in to stop any tensions from rising. "Alright Monty, Lyle's going to be a part of our group, let's get along." Monty releases what I assume to be an animatronic's version of a snort and slams the door on us.

Freddy turns to me. "Don't let him get to you. He's probably just jealous you went to me first. I'm sure you guys will get along." "Right. So we have one last person to meet right?" "Correct, Roxy. After we talk with her you should probably head to the daycare. I bet Sun is dying to meet you." "Sun?" "Sun's the daycare attendant. They are a nice fellow. You'll see when you meet them." "Cool."

We finish the conversation there as we had arrived at Roxy's door. Knock Knock. After a couple of seconds, the door opens to reveal a gray fox, with green hair, and red clothing. Pretty cool design honestly. "What do you want?" Roxy says as she opens the door for me and Freddy. "Who's this pipsqueak?" I don't know why she'd call me a pipsqueak when I am like 2 inches shorter than her. Maybe it's because I'm fluffier to be more kid-friendly. My design is more plush-like than the other animatronics, it's so kids can interact with me more safely. Freddy introduces me to Roxy. "This is Lyle, Roxy. They will be working with us from now on. They will be teaching kids in the daycare." "Hmph. Typical, they can't add anyone else to the band because they'd only drag me down." First an angry animatronic, now a narcissist? Why would they even code them this way? "Well, it's nice to meet you, Roxy." "At least this one knows manners." They seem happy with my sentence. I guess it is worded like a compliment.

As we turn away from the door Freddy explains. "That's Roxy, she has some self-esteem issues so I hope you can forgive her if she says anything mean. Despite their flaws, they are all my friends so please understand." "It's okay Freddy." I give him a calm smile. "If I got upset over something that small I wouldn't be fit to work with kids." "That is... a fair point." "I guess they made you guys more human than the other animatronics. Maybe me as well... I've been having some strange... thoughts or feelings." Freddy looks at me concerned. "Would you like to talk about it?" "Well, it's... hard to explain. It's like a strange sense of deja vu? And I swear I'm feeling more emotion than I should be. It's just... something is not right." "Do you need to go to the technician?" "No!" That sounded a lot louder than I intended it to be. "Er, no. I don't think there's anything wrong with my software. And that's what makes it hard to explain." "Hm. That does sound odd. I don't know if I or anyone will be able to help you with it then, but Lyle," Freddy puts his hand on my shoulder and looks into my eyes. "If you ever need to talk I'll be willing to listen." "Thanks, Freddy. I should go check out the daycare now." "See you later then."
