Abandonment. The one thing she feared is the very thing she was met with. It pulled her in it's god forsaken walls, trapping her inside. It yearned for her misery as it turned it into their company. It knew what she would face preparing her for the downfall she would soon endure. Maybe hope played a part in her mending heart too. Giving her everything it could only to be torn out of the crevices of her already contemplating mind.

Kiara stared at the house. So many memories. Too much pain. They sent her away and left. They left her when she needed them the most and she doesn't believe that they cared one bit. It pained her that she had to go back but it tortured her merely as much seeing them happy without her. Her friends filled in her spot as fast as she could say no. The château is no home to her as much as they are strangers,  perhaps, it's the truth.

Rolling her suitcases, she went up the stairs. She crouched down lifting up the mat to find the spare key they always left for emergencies. She opened the door seeing the familiar layout. With small hesitation, she stepped inside. Her eyes skated around the area feeling dismay and agony. Pictures of themselves visiting beautiful landmarks filled the spaces where her pictures used to be.

Is this how it feels to be forgotten? To be tossed out like an old rag that's no longer useful? To be a broken toy no one wants to play with? To have your guts twisted into a pretzel of the sight of someone being the new you? Maybe it's all in her head, but her mind isn't even that complex. Scuffing at the sight, she made her way upstairs.

Seeing her door, the feeling of anxiousness ran through her body. She felt that they took everything out and pretended she didn't exist. Yet, somehow she even knew that would be too cruel of an act for them. A few more steps were taken before she set her hand on the knob and twisted it.

A gust of wind blew past her. It looked the same. Nothing was touched or tampered with. Every small miscellaneous item was intact. Dusty but nonetheless intact.

Kiara walked in. Her hands grazed the edge of her dresser taking in the smell with her fingertips covered in dust. It was nostalgic that raided her mind with every possible memory she could remember. It felt forgien. Like she isn't supposed to be here.

She quickly left her trance hearing the front door open. Her stomach dipped into an abyss of unsteadiness. Kiara hasn't seen them in ages. Too long for a parent starved minor.

She braced herself before she went out. She knows exactly how this is going to end, but she also wants to be wrong more than anything else. Just even a little bit.

"Mike, do you mind helping me with my shoes?" Anna asked, plopping on the coach.

"Yeah, give me a minute."

Mike set their bags down by the stairwell. The moment he lifted his head, he was in shock. Unfortunately, a shock of guilt.

"Kiara."

Anna turned, narrowing her brows, "What?"

Kiara reached the last step, "Hey," she said, shoving her hands in her back pockets.

Anna sat up a little straighter, "How'd you get in?"

"The spare key."

She gave a nod that was almost unnoticeable. Anna didn't know what to feel. All of the moments of denial intertwined with each other so that it was difficult to see the truth.

"How  you been?" Mike asked.

She let out a dry chuckle once she went past him, "Oh nothing much, just spent my time with Nani, on school, and trying to reach my parents that I thought loved me."

"We do love you," Anna chimed in.

"Really!? Because calling your own daughter a SLUT isn't love."

"Shipping me off to another off the grid state isn't love!"

Tears began to welled feeling her chest sink in.

"You guys LEFT me, you fucking left me!"

"But grandma said you managed."

"BECAUSE I HAD TOO!" "I was alone, I had no money, no phone, and no choice."

"I'm sorry honey, but you know why we did what we did."

"Bullshit! You didn't like me hanging with the pogues so you sent me away. You stripped away everything that I loved just so you couldn't feel guilty anymore!"

"That is not true!" Anna retorted, dismissively.

"I'm not stupid, the minute you couldn't control me as your lap dog you sent me away for someone else to do it," "Did you really expect me to come back like the girl you wanted?"

"Yeah, because I certainly don't want this one."

Her mouth gaped open in disbelief. Kiara felt betrayed. A piece of her heart has lost half of what she trusted them with. Like the sword carved out the impermanence of their love that she savored when they confiscated it. She couldn't stand seeing them right now. She knew how they were going to be. Every inch of her craved to be wrong. Every single part of it.

She wiped her cheeks, sighing, "Okay then, I see how it is."

Kiara went back upstairs grabbing her things. She doesn't need them. They've clearly expressed they don't need her. It hurts but it's not a lie.

The one thing she feared was the very thing she was met with.

Abandonment.
